Game Director Koshi Nakanishi is pleased with the criticism of the DLSS 5 version of Grace Ashcroft.
In March 2026, the internet was abuzz: Nvidia introduced DLSS 5, a new technology that blends the geometry and textures of video games with generative AI.
Although various graphic styles are possible, the hype was built around supposedly photorealistic graphics. This resulted in various before-and-after images, which, however, reminded many people of AI slop and mainly sparked ridicule and schadenfreude online. You can watch Nvidia’s official presentation trailer at the top of the article.
One of the games shown in the presentation was the horror masterpiece Resident Evil Requiem. In an interview with Eurogamer, Game Director Koshi Nakanishi and Game Producer Masato Kumazawa were asked about the DLSS 5 showcase and the reactions that followed. They expressed their immense delight.
Praise for their own work
One of the main criticisms of DLSS 5 regarding the short clip from Resident Evil Requiem isthe change in character design. While Grace Ashcroft looks more realistic, she now resembles a completely different person and no longer resembles the character beloved by fans. Kumazawa draws a conclusion from this:
The fact that many players really liked Grace’s original design and didn’t want to see it changed was positive. I mean,we got the design right, and it also suggests that Grace quickly established herself as a fan favorite if so many people have such strong opinions about her design.
Kumazawa and Nakanishi do not reveal their general opinions on DLSS 5 or the extent to which Capcom was involved in the presentation.
