Mortal Shell 2 Beta: Now Available on Consoles.
Are you already looking forward to Mortal Shell 2? The game is generating massive hype even before its release—the physical Revered Edition for the PS5 recently sold out completely. Now, the developers have unexpectedly announced a beta: This lets you dive right in and put the deconstructed Souls-like mechanics through their paces.
Mortal Shell 2 Beta: Now Available on Consoles
Although the game won’t be released for another two weeks or so, it’s been playable on Steam for a while now—and with tremendous success: the demo has already been downloaded over 500,000 times. The developers emphasize in a statement: “The console beta of Mortal Shell 2 is identical to the current Steam version and offers the same benefits.” In the demo, you can play the first three hours of the full game. If you purchase the main game later, you can simply skip the prologue—provided your platform has access to the corresponding save data.
If you play the console beta for more than 30 minutes, you’ll also unlock the Flayed Harbinger. You can redeem this exclusive cosmetic reward right at launch in the full version.
Our colleague Sherif is already really excited about the game.In a recent preview, he sums up his impressions as follows: “The combat system [in Mortal Shell 2] feels extremely powerful. The heavy, deliberate animations punish every mistake mercilessly. But when an attack hits its target, it’s just a ton of fun. If you die, you lose your upgrade currency and have to reclaim it on your next attempt—otherwise, it’s gone forever. There’s a beacon that, while not called that, serves exactly the same purpose. So far, everything sounds a lot like Souls! But as soon as you look beyond these typical features, something truly magnificent begins to emerge.”
“There are just over two weeks left until the full release: Mortal Shell 2 launches worldwide on August 20 for Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S,” the development team concludes in its statement.
