Subnautica has been very well received by fans since its Early Access release, but there are still requests for improvements. The developers are now responding to these in a letter to the community.
Subnautica 2is here and already a huge success: At its Early Access release, it reached nearly 500,000 concurrent players, Steam reviews are 91 percent positive, and the survival game has now sold over 4 million copies.
Of course, Subnautica 2 is still far from finished, and this is evident in some areas. The creatures in the game are currently sparking heated discussions. Some players wish they could simply kill hostile fish, while others criticize the game’s balance. The developers have now responded to these concerns.
Improvement in Sight
In aletter to the community, the developers thank fans for their feedback and criticism. They note that this is very important during Early Access, and even though they can’t always implement requests immediately, the community’s opinions should shape the game and all developer decisions should be clearly explained.
Specifically, the developers then address the discussion surrounding the creatures in the game:
We recognize that we need to work on creature balance. Currently, some encounters with predators feel more frustrating than dangerous or exciting. Defensive tools aren’t always clear, reliable, or satisfying, and players often don’t know exactly how to respond to an attack. That’s not the experience we want.
For this reason, the developers are planninga series of updates designed to bring changes in this area, such as:
- the frequency of creature attacks
- the area in which creatures attack
- the effectiveness of torches and the survival tool
- creature interactions with vehicles and bases
These improvements are also intended to address the second major issue: the desire of many players to be able to defend themselves against the sea creatures using lethal force. The developers are not currently considering this option.Subnautica has always been built around vulnerability, exploration, and survival
.
However, the developers are apparently convinced that once the creatures have been rebalanced, the desire for weapons will fade into the background.v
So far, the developers’ announcement has been well-received by players. OnPraise for the quick response.
It’s exactly the answer people wanted to hear, and they trust that the developers are working on improvements. Many fans also agree with Unknown Worlds’ principle of avoiding actual combat and killing enemies. They say that only improvements to the non-lethal tools are needed to deal with the creatures.
