A few weeks after its release, The Blood of Dawnwalker has released Update 1.1. We have the complete patch notes and our personal take on the update for you.

The Blood of Dawnwalker was already a really good role-playing game at launch, but it had room for improvement. Now, the vampire open-world game is getting its first major update, and it’s clear that the wishes of many players have been heard. Even for me, having played The Blood of Dawnwalker for about 60 hours, Update 1.1 is heading in exactly the right direction.

The Highlights of Update 1.1

The Blood of Dawnwalker focuses primarily on three areas in Update 1.1: Balance, Mechanics, and Quality-of-Life Features. In my opinion, these are precisely the areas where the RPG still has the most room to grow, and just three new features alone make it a little better right away:

Reset Skills

The fact that learning skills takes time in The Blood of Dawnwalker is not without controversy. I’ve come to terms with it because I still have enough time left to complete all the important quests.

With Update 1.1, however, a major annoyance for me has been eliminated. Now, if I learn a skill but then don’t like it at all, I can reset my skills with a potion. This way, I can make up for the lost time and maybe even try out the Hexer build after all!

Better Combat

I really like the combat system in The Blood of Dawnwalker, but especially in the second half of the game, the battles suffered more and more from balance issues at launch and often took way too long. On top of that, the game made it particularly difficult for me to retreat from a fight. Update 1.1 improves several aspects here:

  • It’s now much easier to switch between targets and lock onto them during combat.
  • If I run away before a fight, the camera doesn’t lock onto enemies as persistently.
  • The health of forest animals has been significantly reduced at higher levels. Finally, no more boss-level wild boars!

Overall, combat feels much more enjoyable and even smoother with the update. The developers also remembered to fix the sudden spike in difficulty in a very specific quest! Previously, this narratively impressive quest became a test of patience due to enemies that were far too powerful. If you haven’t gotten very far in the Manumite questline yet, you can breathe a sigh of relief: Unlike me, you won’t be sitting in front of the screen cursing.

But there’s more: Update 1.1 includes a few other important improvements:

  • Coen can now pet dogs and cats!
  • Teleporting with Shadow Step has been improved; it’s now easier to lock onto a target.
  • Equipped items are hidden when selling. Items sold by accident can also be retrieved for the same price.
  • Upgrading equipment is now slightly cheaper.
  • Frame generation has been improved and new settings have been added. The game now runs even more smoothly on my PC.
