The fact that Lucia has visible scrapes in the artwork is most likely more than just a nice graphical detail.

Dragon’s Dogma 2, the next major Capcom title for the Nintendo Switch 2, is coming out in October.

In a new interview with the Japanese magazine Famitsu, producer Naoto Oyama discusses the technical details of the game’s development. According to the interview, Capcom is aiming for 30 fps in both docked and handheld modes; however, thanks to Frame Generation, the visuals are expected to feel closer to 60 fps. This feature can be enabled or disabled at any time.

30 fps as a baseline: Here’s how Frame Generation is designed to deliver a 60-fps look

“In the Switch 2 version of Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, we’re aiming for a base frame rate of 30 fps,” reveals Oyama. “This applies to both handheld and TV modes. If you enable Frame Generation in this state, the game activates a feature that interpolates additional frames. This allows you to play with smooth visuals equivalent to 60 fps.“

”However, since this feature interpolates between frames, it reaches its limits in certain situations. We’ve already confirmed cases where a slight ghosting effect remains. Nevertheless, we believe this does not significantly impair the overall gaming experience. That’s why we’ve included the option for everyone who considers frame rate particularly important. In the final game, you’ll be able to turn the feature on and off at any time. In our current demo, however, it is permanently enabled. We’re very excited to hear your feedback.”

“Frame Generation essentially calculates and interpolates what would happen if there were a frame at that exact point. The idea behind it is that the entire frame, including this interpolation, ultimately runs at 60 fps. If the interpolated part is off, the frame may tear slightly. Overall, though, this happens very rarely. When you’re playing normally, the minor interpolation errors are barely noticeable. We believe the smooth animations will really impress you.”

Technical First for Capcom: October Release Including Dark Arisen

According to Oyama, this technology is being used for the first time in one of the company’s Switch 2 games.

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen includes the brand-new add-on for the game and will be released on October 9 for all platforms, including Switch 2.
