Xbox and Bethesda offer a glimpse into the region of Hammerfell and confirm the setting and ancient artifacts of the upcoming fantasy role-playing game.

Today, Xbox and Bethesda finally revealed the name and further details about The Elder Scrolls 6. As we now know, the game is subtitled Sentinel. The developers announced the title today, November 3, 2026, in a special video. This comes almost exactly 15 years after the launch of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. Additionally, the very first teaser for The Elder Scrolls 6 hit screens exactly eight years, four months, and 23 days ago. For those who want the exact figures: that’s over 100 months or 3,067 days.

Unfortunately, the new clip doesn’t show any gameplay. The video celebrates 40 years of Bethesda Game Studios. Embedded within it is a new teaser for The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel (starting around 7:20):

Meanwhile, a release anytime soon is unlikely. In a post on Bluesky, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier emphasizes: “Many people seem to forget that Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls 6 in 2018 (along with Starfield) for one reason only: the team wanted to smooth things over after the frustration surrounding Fallout 76. The message to the community was clear: ‘Don’t worry! We’re working on a multiplayer game, but we still have pure single-player titles in the pipeline!’ As much as it pains me to say it, it looks like we’ll have to wait well over two years for the game!”

Hammerfell and Ancient Artifacts: Early Playtest in the Wake of Xbox Layoffs

This reveal follows a report from last week. That report had already hinted that we’d see more of the highly anticipated fantasy RPG in November—and even correctly predicted the game’s name. According to the report, the title is set in the Tamriel region of Hammerfell, explores the “history of The Elder Scrolls,” and “helps unravel the secrets of these mysterious, ancient artifacts.” The teaser now appears to confirm all of this.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma stated that she had already played the game in August during a visit to the Bethesda offices. Meanwhile, a union protested outside with a giant inflatable rat. What makes this particularly interesting is that this announcement comes less than half a year after massive layoffs rocked Bethesda. These layoffs—which also affected many other Microsoft studios—were part of Xbox’s major “reset.”

Bethesda’s Fallout 4 Strategy: Why the Long Silence Points to an Early Release

But why did Bethesda take a full eight years to finally show us the game? Bruce Nesmith, former lead designer of Skyrim, explained earlier that the studio and CEO Todd Howard simply felt pressured at the time. After all, the community was literally waiting “with pitchforks and torches.” “Todd’s view—which I share, by the way—is that the video game industry has a short memory,” he revealed in an interview in 2023. “Companies that hype their games years in advance are basically just shooting themselves in the foot. The best time to talk about a game is half a year before release.” As a reminder: that’s exactly how Bethesda handled Fallout 4 back then.

So does this suggest that we’ll soon see more gameplay from Sentinel? And might we be in for an earlier release than previously thought? Who knows. If we hear more about the title soon, it will most likely be at The Game Awards 2026, which take place on December 10.
