Two months after its release, IO Interactive is now delivering the first major content add-on for 007: First Light. It includes two new TacSim missions and three new weapons.
007: First Light was a real surprise hit this spring. After all, it wasn’t clear at first whether the sandbox concept from the Hitman games—with their taciturn protagonist—would mesh well with the charming British MI6 agent and his more linear adventures.
However, the action-adventure turned out to be a huge hit for the Danish studio IO Interactive. Within just a few weeks, more than three million copies had already flown off the shelves. The game has humor, action, fast cars, and cool spy gadgets—in short: everything a successful Bond story needs. For our reviewer Jesko, First Light thus earned the title of the best Bond game since GoldenEye.
And now IOI is back with thefirst major post-launch update for First Light. While this isn’t yet the promised major story update centered on Pirate King Bawma that the developers announced this spring as part of their roadmap—that’s set to arrive later this year— However, the new update still has a lot to offer. Thanks to new tactical simulations and fresh weapons, you now have every reason to head back to MI6
What’s in Patch 1.1.0?
First and foremost, Update 1.1.0 fixes a whole lot of bugs. And that’s no understatement—according to the developers, the patch resolves over 200 issues reported by the community or internal playtesters. According toThe patch notescover fixes for all kinds of issues in the game, ranging from crashes and clipping errors to annoying achievement unlock bugs. Translation errors have also been fixed.
The real highlight, though, istwo brand-new missions for the so-calledTactical Simulations
, a special challenge mode in the game that lets you unlock new outfits and goodies, for example. These aren’t recycled missions from the story campaign, but two completely new MI6 training environments, each of which puts different aspects of your espionage skills to the test.
The first mission, titledThe Workshop
, takes Bond to Q’s workshop, where he must complete a stealth mission. The key here is to proceed quietly: You’ll need to use your wits, gadgets, and takedowns to silently eliminate enemies while trying to escape. The second mission, Extraction Avenue
takes a completely different approach: Here, you’ll have to fight your way through the level before reinforcements arrive.
In addition, there are three new weapons in TacSim mode: the 50-caliber Stormberg pistol, the DRX-2 submachine gun, and the DRS-7 SMG with a suppressor. Unlocking each of these new firearms requires 3,000 Intel points. There’s also a new blue Hawaiian shirt for Bond, which also costs 3,000 Intel. With the new challenges and unlockables, IOI aims to increase the replay value of First Light.
On PC and Xbox, the latest patch is a real lightweight; requiring only one and a half to four gigabytes to download. On PlayStation, however, you’ll have to wait significantly longer to download it; the download is nearly 24 gigabytes.
Update sizes for all platforms:
- PlayStation 5: 23.84 GB
- Steam:3.6 GB
- Xbox Series:1.39 GB
- Microsoft PC:2.24 GB
- Epic Games Store:3.99 GB
As usual, you can find the complete patch notes on the second page of this article; they come from the official website of developer IO Interactive.
