The update to version 1.0.4 fixes technical issues and quest bugs once again. There’s also a change to the crossbow that editor Steffi is particularly excited about.

A new patch for theGothic Remakehas been released, and in addition to necessary fixes for technical issues, it also includes some exciting balancing adjustments. Those of you who like to wear mage robes and have been frustrated by the lack of armor protection so far should pay special attention.

It’s also worth thoroughly searching familiar locations again on your next playthrough. And then there’s what I personally consider the best news from the update:A change to the crossbow makes my favorite ranged combat technique even more practical.

First, I’ll list the most important points from Patch 1.0.4. You can find the complete patch notes on page 2 of this article. Warning: the changes to the individual chapters may contain story spoilers!

Here’s what Update 1.0.4 changes.

My Favorite—The Crossbow:I’ve specialized in ranged combat, and the crossbow provides the necessary firepower. However, reloading takes forever, so after one or two shots, I quickly switch to my weaker but much faster bow to finish off the rest.

Until now, this technique had the drawback that I could get stuck in the reload animation before the nameless hero pulled out his bow. Apparently, this could even cost me bolts that weren’t even jammed in the crossbow. Both issues have been fixed with the patch.

Robes and Armor:There are several adjustments here. Weaker armor offers slightly less protection, but the first upgrades are cheaper. For armor from the higher-tier factions, however, upgrades cost more. Mage robes now offer more protection against physical damage, but less against elemental damage.

More Loot:New or different items have been added in many locations. For example, in the Shipwreck, the Mist Tower, the Old Fortress, and many underwater areas. So it’s worth taking a closer look during your next playthrough.

You can find many more bug fixes and changes on the next page in the full patch notes. Above, we’ve also linked a few exciting articles about Gothic. It seems the developers of the remake aren’t done yet—they’re asking you to continue reporting bugs diligently and assure you that they’re carefully reviewing the community’s feedback.
