The GTA 6 leak continues to make waves. Eager fans now want to know how many FPS we can expect when Rockstar’s epic game is released.
The past few hours have been pretty turbulent for GTA 6 fans: leak after leak is hitting social media; the community is barely keeping up, trying to discuss what can actually be gleaned from the leaked material.
Of course, that isn’t stopping many from drawing conclusions about the state of the technology Rockstar Games will be bringing to the release on November 19, 2026. The evidence is mounting—at least according to these views—that the game won’t be running at 60 frames per second at launch.
Even the Frames Were Counted
In a collection thread onGTA 6 subreddithas analyzed pretty much everything that appeared in the footage. It also claims that the footage was recorded at 60 FPS.
However, there are several counterarguments. TheX account “GTASixInfo” took it upon themselves to count the frames—2,040 frames in 68 seconds equals exactly 30 fps.
- Tech analysts such asDigital Foundryare convinced that GTA 6 will launch at 30 fps, which they attribute to the CPU.
- Traffic, NPC density, and physics place a heavier load on the CPU than on the graphics card—and on the PS5 Pro, the graphics card is only slightly better than in the base console, so even the more expensive PlayStation is unlikely to reach 60 frames per second.
This is also consistent with an earlier assessment by former Rockstar producer John Ricchio, who in a podcast at the end of July, stated that “visual quality is likely to take precedence over frame rate.”
Rockstar’s track record also points to 30 FPS, by the way: Both GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 were initially released at only 30 FPS; the double frame rate was eventually added to GTA 5 via a patch.
Official announcements regarding the frame rate—whether for the PlayStation 5 (Pro) or Xbox Series X|S—are still completely absent, however; as usual, Rockstar Games isn’t giving anything away.
