Transfers will now take place in several stages; rivals can still snatch a completed deal away from you; and market values are provided by a data service used by real-life clubs.

If you’ve started a career in EA Sports FC in recent years, transfers usually followed the same pattern: You pick out a prospect, head to the negotiating table, throw a sum of money at the opposing manager, haggle briefly, and walk away with your dream player two minutes later.

While that was convenient, it had little to do with the real soccer business. WithFC 27, EA is completely overhauling this mechanic. The developer is moving away from rigid, stylized 3D conversations and instead introducing a system that’s noticeably modeled after Football Manager.

Transfer Revolution à la Football Manager

At the forefront of the new features is the completely revamped transfer market:Negotiations now take place through a step-by-step process. Instead of a single meeting, you first send an inquiry, wait for a response, and then negotiate simultaneously with the selling club, the player, and the agent.

This introduces a dynamic that didn’t exist before: Rival clubs can jump into ongoing talks, attempt to poach players, or sway players at the last minute with higher salary offers. If you don’t feel like haggling, you can simply delegate the negotiations to your sporting director.

Contract structuring also gains significantly more depth:

  • Financial structures:Transfer fees no longer have to be paid all at once but can be spread out in installments over several seasons. In addition, there are performance-based bonuses for goals, assists, or titles.
  • Clauses:You can agree on buyback clauses as well as resale profit-sharing.
  • Timing & Loans:Transfers can be scheduled for the next window or the upcoming season; direct loan returns to the sending club are also possible.
  • Salary Adjustments:Contracts can include automatic salary increases upon promotion or European cup qualification—or reductions in the event of setbacks.

For market values, EA is collaborating with the TransferRoom analytics platform for the first time. The integrated xTV (Expected Transfer Value) model ensures that player prices dynamically adjust over multiple seasons to reflect real-world market conditions, league strength, and current form.

The previous 3D negotiation scenes have been replaced by a streamlined 2D user interface that includes a tension meter, showing you in real time how close the other side is to breaking through (or breaking off) negotiations. Instead of a grade after the deal, there’s now a new presentation show featuring social media reactions from fans and stadium unveilings for blockbuster transfers.

True Rivals

Behind the scenes, EA has revamped the AI logic of opposing clubs:Computer-controlled clubs now follow a long-term philosophy. Youth-development clubs, for example, strategically allocate their budget to young talent, while top clubs seek established star players. Additionally, AI clubs work with shortlists so they can immediately identify alternative candidates if deals fall through.

Exciting news for all derby fans: Club relationships play a real role. Don’t expect your archrival to simply hand over their star striker—historical, local, and regional rivalries make direct transfers significantly more difficult. Conversely, clubs within the same multi-club network (such as Red Bull or the City Group) benefit from noticeably easier transfer routes.

Player personality also plays a role: Players weigh league reputation, club prestige, and European cup opportunities. A star no longer automatically transfers to your team just because the money is right.

Dynamic Player Strengths

But there are changes happening off the transfer market as well:The overall strength of your players is no longer a fixed value in FC 27. The new “Dynamic OVR” system allows current strengths to fluctuate based on three pillars:

  1. Form:Strong form development rewards young talents in particular with major leaps in development.
  2. Morale:Team chemistry, playing time, and role in the squad have a direct impact.

In addition, EA is increasing the risk of injury: Minor injuries no longer heal automatically. If you send injured players onto the field anyway, you risk serious long-term damage and months-long absences.

To help you better plan your players’ potential and development, the developers are introducing six different progression curves for career peaks as well as a new coaching system. The quality of your four department heads (goal, defense, midfield, attack; up to twelve coaches) determines how accurately a player’s final potential is assessed—and poor coaches can simply misjudge a talent’s limit.

    What Else Is Changing

Here’s a quick rundown of the remaining changes:

    • Creator Challenges:Through an external web portal, you can create your own manager scenarios with specific goals and restrictions, share them across platforms via a share code, and vote for them in the in-game hub.
    • Unforeseen Events & Point Deductions:Your club’s financial woes can lead to severe point deductions in the league. Add to that locker-room rivalries, disciplinary incidents, or sudden demands from the board.
    • High-Stakes Press Conferences:Media appearances occur less frequently but have a more noticeable impact on the morale of individual players or the entire team.
    • Training Ground:Directly from headquarters, you can organize 11-on-11 practice matches between your starting lineup and the reserves to test tactics under real-world conditions.
    • Expanded Simulation:The simulation now covers up to ten leagues (previously five) and incorporates statistics from the previous year.
    • New Leagues & Regens:The Mexican Liga MX is included with official licenses. Generated players (Regens) no longer inherit the fixed stats of retired pros but receive randomly generated stats based on the potential pool.

What do you think of the announced changes? Are installment purchases, TransferRoom data, and Dynamic OVRs enough for a true management simulation, or do you still feel it’s missing that final step to become Football Manager? Feel free to let us know in the comments!
