Otherwise, Bethesda stays completely off Reddit. Now, studio head Todd Howard has suddenly posted there personally—and, in passing, revealed how your ideas actually reach him.
Bethesda doesn’t usually post on Reddit, let alone the studio head himself. But under a thread in the r/Games subreddit—which was centered on the latest Fallout news about three upcoming games—a comment appeared from the account ToddBethesda, which is actually run by Bethesda’s longtime studio head himself. And he had a little announcement to share right away.
Todd’s Tip: Use Upvotes as a Wish List
Howard describes himself as a “professional lurker” and writes that he regularly reads comments, even though he rarely posts himself.
At the end of the post, he gets specific: Anyone with an idea for the upcoming games should post it in the thread and let the community upvote it:
This tip is particularly interesting in light of Fallout 5:Unlike The Elder Scrolls 6, which Bethesda says is already in full production, Fallout 5 is just entering pre-production.
It is precisely during this early phase that fundamental decisions regarding gameplay systems and setting are made—the very things where community feedback theoretically still has the greatest potential to make a difference.
What the Community Wants from Bethesda
A look at thethreadshows just how specific many of these wishes already are:
- More real consequences for player decisions, going beyond what was seen in New Vegas, rather than just choosing between a few predefined options
- Morally gray factions instead of clearly good or evil ones, which visibly change the world when you choose a side
- Deeper relationships with companions modeled after Baldur’s Gate 3, including shared camp scenes instead of just combat support
- An optional co-op mode where a second player takes control of a companion character without disrupting the solo experience
- Faction-based settlements that can be conquered in real time, instead of the base-building mechanics from Fallout 4
- An in-game calendar with holidays that visibly affect NPCs and cities
- Real, permanent fixes for quest-blocking bugs in remakes of older titles that have been known for years
- More long-term technical support as well as official modding support for Oblivion Remastered
Whether Howard will actually take any of this on board remains to be seen. After all, his post explicitly promises only a “maybe.”
