Will content cut from GTA 5 make it into GTA 6? A former Rockstar developer can’t completely rule it out, at least.

In an interviewwith Kiwi Talkz, former Rockstar developer John Ricchio explained that a lot of content was cut from GTA 5 during development. Theoretically, this content could be revisited inGrand Theft Auto 6either exactly as-is or at least as inspiration.

However, the former isn’t without its challenges. Due to technical differences, it’s usually not possible to simply cut content out of one game and paste it into another.

It’s not entirely out of the question, though, because Rockstar has done this before:

I think it depends—a lot depends on how much the technology has changed between individual games or different versions of a game. So if the technology is basically the same or similar enough, you can sometimes just incorporate it and say: ‘Hey, let’s see how this works.’ I know there was a game at Rockstar that was canceled; it was a sort of unannounced game, and some of the missions we’d designed for it ended up in GTA 4, which was kind of cool.

Justpop it in and you’re done—it doesn’t work that way

Ultimately, it depends on,how technically compatible the two games are. GTA 5 and GTA 6 use the same engine, but it was fundamentally overhauled and improved for the new installment, which can make porting content more difficult.

If the content has to be developed from scratch, it probably makes only limited sense to include cut missions over new ones tailored specifically to the game. Ricchio explains thatreally cool ideas often live on across games. However, he notes that the team isn’t limited to those ideas and already has plenty of other concepts for upcoming games.

Overall, he says it’s certainly possible, but not necessarily likely. After all, the team can’t simply take the finished content and slap it into GTA 6 without a lot of extra effort.
