The open beta of Legends of Runeterra (LoR) will begin on January 24, 2020, and the digital card game from the League of Legends universe is eagerly anticipated by millions of fans.

The online trading card game Legends of Runeterra has already intrigued millions of players. Preview phases could already be explored in October and November 2019.

Now the time has come: From 24 January 2020, LoR will be available for free to all players in the Open Beta. At 8pm German time the servers will be accessible for everyone. As a bonus a “Moonstruck Poro Guardian” is waiting for those who log in to the beta version within the first seven days. This was announced by developer Riot Games on the official LoR homepage.

Legends of Runeterra is very different from classic trading card games in that you don’t have to buy cards and draw them randomly from boosters. Instead, you can earn points that can be used to unlock new cards over and over again.

Iconic LoL champions in new function
Riot Games could thus become a somewhat different competitor to Blizzard’s Hearthstone and Magic: The Gathering Arena with its low-cost approach. The LoL developer also relies on the “home advantage”. Because the iconic LoL champions are coming back in a different capacity.

“We hope you’ll find details in each map that will surprise, excite, and delight you,” the development team wrote on Twitter the day before the open beta. For Riot Games, the start of the Open Beta is “just the beginning”. The upcoming feedback from the community is important, they say, to improve and develop the game over the years.

With the start of the Open Beta, Riot Games promises new playable boards and guards, a leaderboard mode, an integrated friend list and a friend challenge. However, this challenge is initially limited to the continents. This is set to change in the future, so that friends can be challenged worldwide. Players can register on the Legends of Runeterra homepage.
