Gerald Köhler takes stock of We Are Football 2027 and promises improvements. We have patch notes for the first update.
The founding father of *Anstoss*, Gerald Köhler, and his small team at Winning Streak Games have launched their latest manager simulation and landed it firmly in the middle of the pack—both in the GameStar review and on Steam, *We Are Football 2027* currently averages around 70 points/percent. One week after release, the lead developer takes stock and offers a behind-the-scenes look at the development process.
To ensure smooth gameplay both on and off the field, the development studio has released its first update. The new version fixes bugs and introduces quality-of-life improvements for the manager’s day-to-day routine.
Interim sales figures
We asked Gerald Köhler how We Are Football 2027 is selling. This is particularly significant, as the developers no longer have a publisher backing them and had to finance development out of their own pockets and through crowdfunding. “We’ve reached about 85 percent of our target,” replied the prominent father of former German soccer managers.
Whether the game will generate the necessary revenue for the long-term development of the series will be determined in the coming weeks. Fan support via the Steady platform is a key component of this. At the end of the week, the team will conduct an initial internal review to more precisely plan the next steps for the future of the soccer manager game.
First Major Update Brings Important Fixes
Meanwhile, the first concrete improvements to the game are now available for all buyers. Patch 1 for We Are Football 2027 introduces new filters for the transfer list to sort sales and loans more effectively. It also includes performance improvements for player comparisons, the reactivation of keyboard controls for staff selection, and fixes for crashes in the weekly schedule and national team budgets.
At the same time, work is underway on Spanish and Italian language versions. Test files for both languages are already available on Discord. The studio is also hoping for active support from its global fan base.
In addition to addressing immediate bugs, the team is working on the simulation’s long-term direction. The Steam Workshop is about to enter the testing phase and is intended to offer the community even more creative possibilities. Currently, for example, it’s still very cumbersome to integrate real names, logos, and player photos into the 2027 update of We Are Football.
