It’s Thursday again, and you know what that means: It’s time for new free games on Epic.
Every Thursday, the Steam competitor shuffles the deck and gives away one or more free titles for a week—titles you can claim with just one click and keep in your library forever. Epic’s long-term goal: customer loyalty, so Steam doesn’t get all the action in the digital gaming business.
This week, you can grab two free games: the wacky detective game *Mindcop* and the turn-based samurai roguelike 95 percent positive user reviews a real hit on Steam. However, this fast-paced fighting game currently costs around 15 euros there.

Free Highlight of the Week: Shogun Showdown

Shogun Showdown sends you to feudal Japan to take down hordes of enemies. What makes this roguelike with deck-building elements innovative is its gameplay system centered around your character’s positioning. Unlike in Slay the Spire and similar games, you aren’t locked into a single position; instead, you move tactically across a 2D grid through the ranks of enemies to defeat them with melee and ranged attacks.
Every move, every change of direction, and every attack you prepare costs you a valuable turn. So you’ll need to outmaneuver your opponents with precision, cleverly upgrade your attack cards, and string them together into deadly combos before unleashing them. If the Shogun’s hordes manage to take you down, you’ll unlock new heroes, more powerful attacks, and fresh skills for your next run—in classic roguelike fashion.
With its charming pixel art and deep tactical mechanics, the game has long since become a true hidden gem among genre fans on Steam. Steam user GHeaven, for example, concludes: Shogun Showdown is an absolutely brilliant roguelike deck-builder game that’s in a league of its own. It’s at least as addictive as Slay the Spire.
In addition to the unique gameplay, players especially praise the high replay value and the appealing soundtrack.
Free Game Number 2: Mindcop
A non-linear detective game by a solo developer in which you tap into the brainwaves of suspects. After a murder at the tranquil Merrylin Crater Camp, you play as an investigator with supernatural abilities who delves directly into the minds of the residents to unlock clues for your interrogations through challenging puzzles.
You have exactly five days to track down the culprit; every single action costs valuable time. So you’ll need to carefully weigh your investigative steps to avoid getting stuck in dead ends.
