The new patch for the strategy game adds the long-awaited start option. It also brings back some fan favorites via a new DLC, though Switch players will have to wait.
Update 1.5.0 for Civilization 7 is now available for download on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. However, players on Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 will have to wait until a later date—2K and Firaxis have not yet provided specific details.
The update introduces new features and quality-of-life improvements, as well as the Hall of History Content Collection.
True Starting Location and Diplomacy: The Key Features of Patch 1.5.0
Among the most important new features is the long-awaited “True Starting Location: World Map” option. In addition, the Terra Incognita and Shuffle maps have been revamped, and you now have the option to spend influence to remain neutral. This allows you to bypass your alliance clause and remain part of an alliance even if your allies join a war.
With this new option, you get a faithful recreation of Earth as the game map, available only in the “Huge” size. All campaigns begin here in ancient times, and your exact starting point is determined by the historical capital of your chosen civilization.
Navigable Rivers and Terrain Advantages: Firaxis Revamps the World Map
“For Civilization 7, we’ve come up with a few fresh twists and updates that haven’t been seen in previous installments of the series,” they say. “Major waterways like the Nile or the Amazon now feature navigable rivers. Additionally, each map always contains exactly seven natural wonders. The game draws these from a random pool at the start of each new game. To ensure that starting regions offer enough space, we’ve slightly reduced the size of tundra and empty ocean tiles. Some key regions, such as Europe, have been made larger to avoid a lack of space. We’ve also expanded Hawaii and Japan. This way, starting on an island doesn’t necessarily turn into a merciless challenge.”
The world map is available on Steam, Epic, Mac, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. It is not yet available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One.

Hall of History DLC: New Civilizations and Classic Leaders for 19.99 euros
The Hall of History Content Collection mentioned above is available for 19.99 euros. It brings back historical leaders from earlier installments of the franchise, including George Washington and Queen Elizabeth I. It also adds three new civilizations: Babylon, the Gauls, and England.
Most recently, the development team unveiled the Earthrise expansion as well as the Atomic Age for Civilization 7.
