Henry Cavill is known to be a huge *Warhammer* fan. It’s gotten to the point where he’s even forbidding the screenwriter of the Prime Video series from revealing any spoilers.

Amazon Prime Video is currently developing a series set in the Warhammer 40K universe. Much to the delight of super-fan Henry Cavill (The Witcher, Man of Steel), who is not only playing the lead role but also serving as an executive producer. He apparently has so much influence that he can even tell screenwriter Mike Flanagan (Carrie, The Haunting of Hill House) to keep his mouth shut.

Of course, Flanagan isn’t entirely serious about this; rather, he points out Deadline in an interview, that Cavill would freak out, if he revealed too much about the Warhammer series:

Henry Cavill would be furious if I revealed anything about what we’re currently working on. All I can say is that Warhammer is a fascinating world. The challenge […] is finding a way in—it’s just so massive. There are 700 novels, not to mention the tabletop game, the interactive elements, and so much more from the background universe.

It’s really a lot of fun

He emphasizes, however, that the series has now found a very cool and unexpected start. In the spirit of Henry Cavill, he’s very careful to avoid spoilers (who would want to upset this guy after he so sweetly showed his passion for Warhammer?), but he explains that he’s really having a lot of fun with the project.

We don’t know much yet about the sci-fi series, which is based on the book and game universe. It’s set to take place nearly 40,000 years in the future, where the Imperium rules over humanity and is constantly at war on countless fronts. Enemies include Chaos Demons and hostile alien races. They’re primarily opposed by genetically modified Space Marines acting as super-soldiers.

So much for the setting—since the Amazon series is currently still in an early stage of development, it’s not really possible to say anything about the actual plot yet. The rest of the cast and a premiere date have also not yet been officially revealed. In addition to the live-action adaptation, an animated series has been announced that will follow the Deathwatch special unit.
