With Season 1 of Modern Warfare 4, poor visibility and loud puddles will make future rounds more challenging. These conditions are set from the start of each match.
A new weather system in Call of Duty: Warzone is designed to ensure that every match feels noticeably different from now on.
The Season 1 update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 arrives at the end of the week, bringing sweeping changes to Warzone. One of the biggest new features is fresh weather conditions: When you jump into the fray on the map in the future, you can expect rain, lashing winds, or other whims of nature.
No Dynamic Weather Shifts: How Rain and Puddles Change Gameplay
However, don’t expect dynamic weather shifts during a match, as the weather for a match is set from the start. Until now, Warzone has been rather static in this regard, as the weather has always remained the same.
The new conditions should therefore provide a bit more variety, especially since they also affect gameplay. For example, limited visibility in the rain makes exploring the world more difficult, while your footsteps make a louder splashing sound when you walk through puddles, giving you away more quickly.
Calls for a Day-Night Cycle: Release on November 6 and Competition from Wardogs
A weather system has been on the community’s wish list for quite some time, as has a day-night cycle. While the latter isn’t available yet, it would make night vision goggles a truly useful gadget. Although these exist in the DMZ Extraction mode, they’re used almost exclusively in sealed-off complexes without power.
The Season 1 update will be released on November 6, 2026, for all platforms.
Multiplayer competitor Wardogs also recently introduced a weather system to make online matches more varied.
