Following the first beta phase, the fast-paced wall-bouncing in multiplayer has divided the community. Hardcore fans are celebrating the classic mechanics, while casual players are giving up in frustration.

The first phase of the Gears of War E-Day beta may be over, but the discussion rages on online. This time, it’s about an old favorite: How good is the movement in Gears of War: E-Day, really? Does the frantic dashing from cover to cover with a shotgun at the ready scare off casual players? Is the whole thing too… “intense”?

To answer that, we first need a little context. Gears of War has been known for years for its focus on waist-high cover. The game practically pushes you to advance aggressively and engage in bloody firefights. In online multiplayer, players quickly discovered a trick: you can dart back and forth between waist-high cover at breakneck speed. This fast and unpredictable movement poses a real challenge to your opponents. Put a Gnasher shotgun in the hands of these acrobatic killers, and you get a notorious playstyle: wall bouncing.

Positive Feedback and a Breath of Fresh Air for the Series

Now, The Coalition has made great strides with movement in Gears of War: E-Day. Thanks to modern technology, the burly Gears characters can finallyjump. You can also slide and climb onto waist-high cover. Guys, we’re talking about a truly revolutionary development in the gaming world.

But how did the community react to this new direction when they got to try it out for themselves over the weekend? Well, many players seem to be celebrating the mix of old and new. It really breathes new life into Gears of War. You can still bounce back and forth between cover with gusto, but the new features introduced by E-Day bring just the right amount of variety to the game to keep the gameplay fresh.

Helios is among the fans giving the E-Day changes a clear thumbs-up. Heshared a video on X. In it, he takes down enemies one after another with his shotgun and writes: “Gears of War is truly back.” As you can clearly see, wall bouncing is still very much a part of the game.

People in the Gears of War subreddit are saying similar things.& nbsp;Videos showcasing the new movement are literally flooding the platform. Some users even claim they’ve completely lost interest in the older games in the series, after experiencing the approach taken in Gears of War: E-Day.

Criticism of the gameplay and frustration among casual players

However, it’s not all praise. Another clip, which Nate posted on X, provides a detailed look at the multiplayer mode, including the new movement mechanics. Here, too, everything screams classic Gears. Nevertheless, this has caused quite a bit of discontent among some online commenters. A user named Adam Castleberry was unimpressed and wrote: “Thanks for showing this. At least this way I won’t waste my time or my money.”

“I can’t believe the franchise is still pulling this wall-hugging, seizure-inducing shotgun nonsense. It looks absolutely ridiculous lol,“wrote X-user NIB. ”I get that some hardcore fans celebrate this classic Gears element. But they’d better pray that the general public sees it the same way. Otherwise, The Coalition could very quickly find itself in the crosshairs of the trigger-happy Xbox management.”

Others expressed a similar aversion to the movement style in Gears of War.For example, ExoGhost posted on X: “Imagine you come home from work and just want to play a casual game to relax. And then you get destroyed by tryhards who shamelessly exploit movement glitches. Casual gaming is dead.”

Kamikaze_Bacon expressedsimilar outrage on Reddit: “Sorry, but anyone who thinks Gears should be played like that is an idiot. You can yell ‘sKiLl ExPrEsSiOn!’ as loud as you want, but that’s just damn silly.”

A decades-old debate within the fanbase

However, this is by no means a new criticism. Gears of War has always had to contend with the accusation that these specific movement techniques are just for noobs online. Here’s a GameFAQs post from 17 years agoon the topic of wall bouncing. Back then, user blade6321 wrote: “You do this to avoid getting hit. But a lot of people call it a ‘noob’ tactic—and honestly, I agree.”

Ultimately, it’s purely a matter of taste whether you think all these movement tricks in Gears of War E-Day are awesome or terrible. Side note: It’s fascinating to see that the very same discussions I followed back in my school days are still being debated so intensely in our modern social media world. If Gears of War: E-Day manages to reignite such age-old arguments, that might be the clearest sign yet: the series is making a real comeback.
