AMD Vice President Jack Huynh officially confirms: FSR Upscaling 4.1 will arrive on the Radeon RX 7000 series in July. The RX 6000 series will follow in early 2027.

From the start, AMD has limited the current generation of FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR 4) to the latest RX 9000 graphics cards. That will soon come to an end.

As Jack Huynh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Computing and Graphics at AMD,confirmed on X, FSR Upscaling 4.1 will also run on RDNA 3 starting in July 2026.

RDNA 2 also gets FSR 4

So, according to Huynh, anyone with a Radeon RX 7000 in their computer will get the update “out of the box” and for more than 300 games at launch.

The older RDNA 2 generation (i.e., the Radeon RX 6000 series) is also expected to follow suit in early 2027. AMD has not yet published a final compatibility list.

  • Technically, FSR 4.1 on RDNA 3 relies on the so-called “1st Gen AI Accelerator.”
  • Unlike the second generation on RDNA 4, this first stage supports only INT8 instructions, i.e., 8-bit integer operations. The FSR 4.1 variant was specifically adapted for this instruction set.

FSR 4 launched in spring 2025 as an exclusive feature of the Radeon RX 9000 series. Until then, anyone playing on an older Radeon GPU had to stick with FSR 3 or traditional upscaling methods without machine learning.

However, benchmarks at launch will likely be the first to reveal the exact quality gap between the respective GPU generations—especially since the exact list of compatible games is still missing, as is a specific release date.

In this context, Huynh himself promises that FSR 4 on RDNA 3 has been “tested on hundreds of PC configurations,” all of which ran through the company’s in-house test suite “without compromising on quality or performance.”
