A YouTuber has deciphered the runes from the trailer for the new Divinity and thus apparently uncovered a clue about the antagonist in the role-playing game.

Trailers tend to really ramp up anticipation for games—and sometimes spark a theory or two. But one YouTuber is taking this to a whole new level with Larian’s upcoming Divinity RPG. He’s deciphered the runes on the crown from the trailer and may have even revealed a major secret ahead of time.

The YouTuber WolfHeartFPS has about 250,000 subscribers and primarily shares RPG content. His in-depth rune analysison X. There, itwas viewed over 45,000 timesand was very well received:

The runes seem to confirm a popular fan theory

The clue isn’t found directly in the Divinity trailer, but rather in the behind-the-scenes footage shared by Unit Image onLinkedIn, which directly shows the assets used. The studio created the cinematic in collaboration with developer Larian. In the final trailer, which you can watch right here, the symbols aren’t visible!

After some research, the YouTuber identified the runes asElder Futhark, the oldest known Germanic runic script. He notes that it’s difficult to decipher the script because there are so many variants and possibilities that the (presumably slightly modified) version on the crown cannot be translated one-to-one into modern English.

That’s why he emphasizes that this is merely his interpretation and not a 100 percent accurate translation. Nevertheless, he is convinced that after about five hours, he has found the most plausible theory. The crown likely readsChaos Is Coming, meaningchaos is approaching.

Not only does that sound wonderfully ominous, but it would also fit well with Divinity. After all, there have already been theories that the next game could revolve around the Lord of Chaos as the antagonist—the one who created the demons in the universe. He’s already mentioned inDivine Divinityand is currently imprisoned; his release could have dramatic consequences.

Nearly 40 minutes of trailer analysis followed amid much fan enthusiasm

User Tobias Finger shares in the comments on Ximmediately shares the next possible clue. The YouTuber even promises to get right on it.User Alexanderis also asking for a 30-minute video recap, which he has since received. You can watch it on the WolfHeartFPS channel (and yes, it really did end up being over 30 minutes long):

He breaks down the trailer even further in the video and, based on that, ventures sometheories about playable races, locations, and other symbols that could provide clues to the story. He also takes a look at the tattoo mentioned in the X-Comment, but was unable to decipher it. According to him, it could simply be a decorative element with no great significance.

Not much is known yet about the new Divinity. The epic role-playing game is once again from Larian Studios, which recently made a name for itself with Baldur’s Gate 3, and is set in the world of Rivellon. The RPG is said to be the development studio’s largest project to date, potentially eclipsing even the successful Baldur’s Gate 3—at least in terms of scope. The game is designed to stand on its own, separate from the previous Divinity titles, thereby appealing to newcomers following Baldur’s Gate.
