Modern Warfare 4 is getting plenty of new content and a big dose of nostalgia.
On November 6—just two weeks after the full release of Modern Warfare 4—the first season with new content will kick off. Among the new additions is the map “Backstab,” whose layout will immediately seem suspiciously familiar to many longtime CoD fans:

In fact, it’s a remake of the Burgundy map from 2005’s Call of Duty 2. That means the map is probably quite a bit older than many of the people who’ll soon be playing the new version in MW4!
Anyone under 21 wasn’t even born (let alone old enough to play Call of Duty) when Burgundy first came out. Yeah, we’re feeling our age now, too.
Classics Return
And the Season 1 update is packed with nostalgia in other ways as well: Ghost gets his classic outfit from the original MW2 from 2009, and the AA-12—a shotgun that veterans will also recognize from that game—makes a comeback.
In addition to Backstab, the new multiplayer map Canyon will also be available at launch, and Shoot House is making a comeback. Later in the season, two more maps—Overflow and Ministry—will be added.
So a total of 5 maps will be released in Season 1. Actually, there are 6 in total, since Kill Block is now also available as a variant for regular respawn modes on the Crash map (previously only available in Gunfight).
Additionally, four new weapons (two of them at the season launch) and more weapon attachments for the existing arsenal will be released. You can find a complete overview of the content on the official blog post on CoD MW4 Season 1.
Big Plans for DMZ
Special attention is being paid to the outstanding DMZ mode. In Season 1, it opens up the grounds of a secret weapons factory called X01 near the Russian border, featuring a sprawling underground labyrinth.
These tunnels contain fresh and extremely rare loot, guarded by a new type of boss enemy and other dangers—clearly an endgame zone.
The FOB (the walk-in base) is also being expanded, there are new DMZ Orders (mission packs), and the first events within DMZ will also begin with Season 1.
So it looks like the developers are putting a significant portion of their resources into expanding this extraction shooter!
