CD Projekt Red responds to fan criticism and, with Update 5.01, optimizes image sharpness, brightness, and performance on the Nintendo console.

CD Projekt Red is currently rolling out the promised Switch 2 patch for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered. The update fixes a whole range of issues in the game.

The Witcher 3 on Switch 2: New Optimizations

The most important changes involve sharpening and resolution to improve image sharpness and display quality. With these adjustments, the developers are responding directly to community feedback: Many players had complained that the game appeared blurry, especially in handheld mode.

In addition, the developers are tweaking the lighting. As with the updates for the other console versions, the patch reduces the sometimes extreme brightness of the Remastered Edition. This issue has been one of the biggest points of criticism from fans since the game’s release in late September.

Here’s an overview of the complete patch notes for Update 5.01 of The Witcher 3 Remastered:

Gameplay

  • An issue has been fixed where the “Automatically Apply Blade Oils” feature only worked if it was enabled during the current gameplay session.
  • Fixed an issue where player-controlled boats would move erratically under certain circumstances and ignore collisions with the terrain.
  • Improved animations for interacting with ladders.
  • Fixed a bug where Geralt would collide with dead enemies after performing the Aard finisher.
  • Fixed a bug where Vesemir would repeat a line of dialogue if “Quen” was cast multiple times.
  • Fixed a bug where dodging could sometimes respond with an unintended delay.
  • Fixed a bug that allowed players to throw a bomb even when the option was disabled.
  • Fixed an issue where the bonus granted by the synergy ability displayed incorrect values.
  • Damage reflection has been added to the “Exploding Shield” ability.
  • An issue was fixed where Geralt’s stamina would be completely depleted when he sprinted and dodged at the same time.

User Interface

  • An issue was fixed where the “You have received a skill point!” pop-up could get stuck on the screen.
  • Fixed an issue where input prompts on the meditation screen would briefly flash.
  • Fixed an issue where the potion tutorial would not appear after opening the “Consumables” tab.
  • Several misaligned progress bars in the user interface have been corrected.

Graphics & Performance

  • Various visual adjustments have been made, including improvements to bloom, tone mapping, character lighting, ray tracing, and path tracing.
  • Options for bloom, light rays, and depth of field have been added to the graphics settings.
  • Various optimizations have been implemented to improve performance.
  • An issue has been fixed where dynamic resolution scaling could cause visual artifacts under certain configurations.

Audio

  • The fix for the issue where voice acting became significantly quieter than other in-game sounds after switching between tabs in the pause menu has now been implemented on consoles as well.

Specific to Nintendo Switch 2

  • Adjustments have been made to image sharpness and resolution to improve visual clarity and fidelity.
  • Fixed a rare crash that could occur when switching between regions in the game.
  • Optimized cache management for cross-platform mod support.
  • Fixed an issue where HD Rumble was only felt in the left Joy-Con 2 when climbing a ladder.
  • Fixed an issue where map markers could be placed on the black bars surrounding the map.

Miscellaneous

  • Due to backend issues, the terms of service consent screen will reappear. You’ll need to confirm your settings again. By doing so, you’ll be helping us improve the game.
  • Fixed an issue where “My Rewards” and Twitch/Bilibili drops didn’t appear in the chest in Vizima if it had been opened previously. As a result of this fix, some items may appear twice. Just consider them a bonus!
  • An issue where leaves did not react to collisions has been fixed.
  • An issue that could affect save data has been fixed, and measures have been taken to resolve any save files that were already affected.
  • The Ukrainian text localization is now available in all regions.

The update for “The Witcher 3 Remastered” revamps the 11-year-old role-playing game, modernizes its visuals, adds new animations, and optimizes several game systems, including skills and enemy behavior. It paves the way for the new “The Witcher 3” expansion, “Songs of the Past,” which is set to be released next year, and is, in and of itself, an exceptionally generous upgrade.
