Wardogs is once again generating a buzz within the shooter community with its latest video. That’s because the developers aren’t just showing off tons of new gameplay here, but are also explaining their ambitions for the multiplayer shooter in more detail—and those sound like music to the ears of many fans of Battlefield, Arma, Ghost Recon, or Squad.

Realism, but not at any cost

Developer Bulkhead focuses on an authentic look and has based the weapons, uniforms, gunfire sounds, vehicle controls, and even the ballistics of the various calibers on real-world conditions (spending time at the shooting range in the process). Nevertheless, they don’t want to force realism everywhere, so as not to create a monster of complexity.

No classes, many roles

Another focus is the flexibility of loadouts and vehicles. Instead of fixed classes, every player can customize their equipment individually. Players can also focus entirely on being a pilot and earn points and money that way. This goes over well: “The fact that I can just fly transport helicopters and get rewarded for it and level up is fantastic,” writes one user.

Tactics are paramount

The developers emphasize that Wardogs features a minimalist HUD. Players should be able to locate enemies by their footsteps and, when under fire, by the whistling of bullets. Teamwork and a strategic approach to base building and mission objectives are key pillars. There’s praise for this as well: “It’s everything I’ve wanted from a game like this in recent years. No mindless run-and-gun like in Battlefield and no running simulation like in Arma,” writes a user.
