Spacestation Gaming defeats the ninjas in pyjamas in the final of the Six Invitational 2020, for which the American organization from Salt Lake City is collecting one million US dollars. From a European perspective, the tournament is disappointing.

Spacestation Gaming (SSG) is at the Rainbow Six Olympics after defeating ninjas in pajamas (NiP): The American organization from Salt Lake City won the Six Invitational 2020 in Montreal last Sunday. The Six Invitational is considered the unofficial world championship and is the most important title in Rainbow Six wins.

It all ended with a nerve-wracking thriller in Canada: With a comeback against Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP), Spacestation Gaming turned a 1:2 deficit into a 3:2 victory. The Montreal triumph not only included the infamous sledgehammer trophy, but also prize money of one million US dollars.

A tour de force for the greatest success
In the final against the Brazilians of Ninjas in pyjamas, Spacestation Gaming had to go the full distance. The winner of the Winner Bracket had the advantage to go into the final with a 1-0 lead according to Maps. This advantage was bitterly needed, because NiP won the first two Maps Villa and Border in the best-of-five with 7:3 and 7:2.

With their backs to the wall, SSG fought their way back into the game spectacularly – despite a 4-0 deficit on the Club House map in the meantime.

Thanks to a strong defense, the team around captain Javier “ThiningNade” Escamila won 7-5 and forced the fifth and thus decisive round on the bench. There Spacestation Gaming dominated and celebrated their biggest triumph to date with a 7-3 win, their first win of the Six Invitational.

Two years after the dominant victories of the European organizations PENTA and G2 Esports, the most important R6 title is thus going back to America. For US-American Dylan “Bosco” Bosco, the win in Montreal is the second Six Invitational title. He celebrated his first success with Team Elevate on Xbox One in 2017, while his current team-mate Troy “Canadian” Jaroslawski won the Six Invitational in the PC version with Continuum in the same year.

From a German perspective, the most important Rainbow Six tournament of the year was rather disappointing. The team Rogue around Lukas “korey” Zwingmann had to admit defeat already before the playoffs in group B. There, however, the predominantly German lineup also lost out to third-placed team SoloMid and strong European rival Natus Vincere. The later champion SSG won this group. The three most successful teams of the tournament bet on American players.
