Like every year, the release of a new Call of Duty is scheduled for 2021.

The rumor mill about developers, release and setting is already bubbling.

True to the motto “after the release is before the release”, rumors about the setting of the next Call of Duty, which is supposed to be released in 2021, are already doing the rounds. There is also speculation about the developer responsible. The original source that initiated the current discussion has since been deleted. However, some renowned insiders have already spoken out about the allegations.

CoD 2021 in World War 3? The rumors

Some gamers currently assume that the Call of Duty to be released this year will deal with a fictional third world war and will be created by Sledgehammer Games. The developer studio has so far mainly worked on the Modern Warfare series. While publisher Activision has not yet commented on these claims, there are already statements from Tom Henderson and the Twitter portal ModernWarzone, which is known to be very well informed.

Are the statements about the setting true?

Both sources enjoy a lot of trust in the CoD community and have often been right with their information in the past. And both can’t confirm the alleged setting in World War III: Tom Henderson answered the terse question “Call of Duty WW3?” just as briefly with a simple “No.” ModernWarzone, on the other hand, gave a slightly more detailed answer.

The portal explained that they have not heard any such information themselves. However, this does not mean that the assumption is necessarily wrong. As soon as they have found out more about the setting, they will comment on it again.

Who is developing CoD 2021?

The information that the next part is being developed by Sledgehammer Games comes from Henderson himself and is therefore quite credible. With a planned release date of November 12, 2021, it is said to be in development for a total of two years and three months.

None of the information about the next Call of Duty has been officially confirmed, which is why you should take it with a grain of salt. Because until Activision or a developer makes an official statement, the authenticity can of course not be confirmed.

It will take at least a few more months until the next part is released. As with Modern Warfare before, these will be filled with various content updates for the current spin-off. In December 2020, Season 1 of Black Ops: Cold War and Warzone started. In addition, the first information about the second season is already leaking out.
