The GTA 6 case will remain empty even at launch, but that doesn’t mean you can’t decorate it.
You’ll be able to pre-order GTA 6 starting in June 2026, and that’s likely to ramp up the anticipation among many fans even further. For some, it might even be on their Christmas or birthday wish list. But what if their birthday is weeks before the release? Giving an empty box as a gift is kind of silly, even if there’s a certain irony to it given the lack of a disc version.
For one couple, however, the November release of GTA 6 wasn’t much of a hurdle. On the contrary: that’s when their creativity really took off.
A Package from Vice City
On the GTA 6 subreddit, user ImHeiden proudly posted about the birthday gift his girlfriend gave him:
(Reddit)
The pictures show a mysterious black box with pink stickers bearing the words “Vice City International: Priority Package.” Inside are several “confidential” envelopes and a kind of gift certificate. The main gift is the Ultimate Edition of GTA 6, but that wasn’t all, as the user writes:
She spent hours painting a cardboard box with black spray paint. And lo and behold, she gave me the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition. She’s also taking care of all the housework and meals from release day through Sunday.
The post has—to put it mildly—gone viral and has now garnered over 27,000 upvotes and several thousand replies. The top comments congratulate the lucky guy—not on GTA 6, but on his amazing girlfriend, he should just marry her right away.
This is what NoDoor344: “That’s so awesome—she’s genuinely interested in your hobby; that’s really badass. Happy birthday!”
This heartwarming story stands in stark contrast to a completely different situation that has been widely discussed online in recent weeks. On social media, some partners of GTA fans have spoken out, viewing playing the new installment in the series as cheating (via IGN). Because the relationship between the main protagonists, Jason and Lucia, is set to become a major part of Rockstar’s action game.
Our colleagues at GamePro have compiled what a couples therapist has to say about this daring interpretation of relationship fidelity. In short: If GTA 6 really triggers uncomfortable feelings in one of the partners, then both should talk about it urgently. There could be a deeper underlying problem here.
However, it’s doubtful anyway how seriously the statement “Playing GTA 6 is like cheating” should be taken on social media. It’s not without reason that the term “ragebait” on the shortlist for the 2026 Youth Word of the Year. The term describes the tactic of deliberately expressing provocative opinions to enrage the audience and generate maximum attention.
It’s all the more wonderful that positive examples like ImHeiden’s are also attracting attention. Incidentally, the user has already added to his post that he had planned to marry his girlfriend one day anyway. These are the kinds of stories we much prefer to report on.
