The roadmap also promises quite a few improvements, but they have one big drawback: New content like Mortal Empires is delayed.

First the foundation, then the house: According to this basic building principle, (Creative Assembly) also wants to align Total War: Warhammer 3. As the developers explain in a blog post, numerous improvements are to be made to the strategy game before new content such as the eagerly awaited Mortal Empires or the Blood DLC will follow on this basis.

The starting signal for the implementation will be given with Update 1.1 for Total War: Warhammer 3, which is to be released at the beginning of April. We have summarised the important adjustments in Patch 1.1 and what else is planned for you here.

The update for Total War: Warhammer 3 will be released at the beginning of April.

What’s in Update 1.1

The first major update for Total War: Warhammer 3 contains many gameplay and balance changes as well as numerous bug fixes. According to Creative Assembly, these are the adjustments to the Chaos Empire that carry weighty implications for the campaign:

  • The strength of negative realm properties has been reduced by around 50%.
  • Defendant Demon Lords are no longer burdened by the negative properties of their respective patron god.
  • Properties acquired in the Realm of Chaos are now removed when a legendary lord completes the Survival Battle in that realm.
  • The rewards for collecting souls have been improved by providing additional bonuses for a limited time.
  • When a player intercepts an AI Lord in the Soul Forge, their souls are now lost – and they must restart their collection. This should make it easier to interrupt the soul race.
  • The “protection” building chain can now be used to prevent cracks from spawning in the province they are built in.

Most importantly, the last two items are designed to ensure that the time pressure of the campaign mechanic is reduced and that players have options to reduce it. For example, AI opponents can now be defeated directly at the forge and thus set back considerably.

Also interesting: From patch 1.1, the construction of the “Protection” building chain can prevent chaos portals from spawning in a province at all. You can therefore control the access to souls more strongly, as these are collected by travelling to the Chaos realm.

What the changes mean

Overall, this should make Total War: Warhammer 3 easier to play as a quasi-sandbox. So those who are rather annoyed by the campaign and are eagerly waiting for the free gameplay of Mortal Empires could already have more fun in the strategy game after update 1.1.

Update 1.1 for Total War Warhammer 3 also contains numerous other changes, including to the faction balance and the supply lines. It also contains urgently needed bug fixes. After all, the strategy game has been struggling with numerous problems since its release:

Roadmap: What the future holds for Total War: Warhammer 3

The developers emphasise that the technical and gameplay problems of Total War: Warhammer 3 are to be fixed first. After that, the hopefully solid basis will serve as a starting point for a roadmap full of DLCs, but also free updates.

What exactly is planned besides Mortal Empires and the Blood Pack, Creative Assembly did not reveal yet. But at least they hinted that Total War: Warhammer 3 should surpass its predecessor in terms of additional content in the long run.
