  • Christelle Elwin as Mistle – a member of the street gang “The Rats” who develops a complicated relationship with Ciri.

Farewell to Cavill: Henry Cavill will appear as Geralt for the last time in season 3. Starting in season 4, Liam Hemsworth (Hunger Games) will take over the role of the grumpy wizard.

Season and episodes: How long will season 3 be?

There is also no official info on this yet. However, since both season 1 and season 2 each comprise eight episodes, the third season will probably also achieve a similar length.

Story: What is season 3 about?

Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich confirmed in an interview with (techradar) that the third season will be based on the second novel of the Geralt saga The Time of Contempt . Season 1 was already primarily dedicated to the short story collection “The Last Wish” and season 2 moved another book into focus with the novel “The Heir of the Elves“.

Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri: In the novel, Yennefer and Geralt get to know each other even better and Ciri finds herself in a desert of Nilfgaard after an escape and meets a unicorn there. While Ciri thus has problems of her own away from her foster parents, the sorcerer and the sorceress end up in the midst of a combative and bloody confrontation.

Official synopsis: On April 4, 2022, an initial plot overview for Season 3 of The Witcher was shared on (Twitter) . The reveals the following about the story of the new episodes:

While monarchs, mages, and beasts of the continent vie for her, Geralt and Ciri of Cintra go into hiding determined to protect the reunited family from those who threaten to destroy it. Yennefer, entrusted with Ciri”s magical training, leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza. There she hopes to find out more about the girl”s untapped powers. Instead, however, she finds herself in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and betrayal. They must put everything on the line to fight back or risk losing each other forever.

Platform: where will season 3 be released?

Exclusively on Netflix: The third season of The Witcher is also produced by Netflix and will thus be permanently available only on this platform. Henry Cavill”s Geralt will thus not be available on other streaming providers, such as Amazon Prime or Disney Plus.

What else is planned for The Witcher on Netflix?

Seven seasons planned: The third season of The Witcher is not the end of Geralt”s series adventure. According to showrunner Hissrich, the story is set to run for seven seasons or more. Whether that will happen, of course, remains to be seen – after all, viewership is what matters most to the streaming service.

Another anime in the works: As part of Netflix”s fan event Tudum the streaming service announced another anime. However, there are absolutely no details about it yet. Accordingly, it is unclear whether Vesemir”s further life will be retold or dedicated to another focus topic.

Family-friendly series: The Witcher universe is certainly not squeamish in its presentation and thus not exactly suitable for nice family evenings. But Netflix wants to change that in the future. Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich confirmed that a children”s series on The Witcher is in the works. There are no details on this yet either.

The many announcements show that at least in the near future fans do not have to prepare for too long a dry spell regarding new Witcher content on Netflix. With the video games it also looks very good: Several Witcher projects are in the works at CD Projekt Red.

Are you excited for The Witcher season 3 or do you not really like the direction the Netflix series is taking? Will you keep watching after the new season, even if Geralt will no longer be played by self-confessed Witcher fan Henry Cavill? Feel free to post your thoughts and opinions below in the comments!
