There isn’t an exact release date yet, but here’s a sneak peek at the new look.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time!
What was rumored just before the Nintendo Direct has actually turned out to be true. The cult classic Zelda: Ocarina of Time is getting a new remake! And to everyone’s surprise, it’s even set to release in 2026 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2!
Apart from a really tiny teaser, there hasn’t been much to see so far. But it already looks pretty impressive:
However, there is still no sign of actual gameplay or further details beyond the release date. This will likely be presented in the coming weeks with a dedicated Nintendo Direct, as the developer and publisher usually do.
A Grand Celebration for the 40th Anniversary
The first Zelda game, The Legend of Zelda, was released for the NES in 1986. But Zelda didn’t truly become famous until a few years later, when The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was released on November 21, 1998, in Japan (and in Europe in December ’98) for the Nintendo 64. Along with Majora’s Mask, it is one of the most famous entries in the Zelda series.
Here’s what it’s about:In Ocarina of Time, Link is chosen at the tender age of nine to save the Kingdom of Hyrule from the Desert King Ganon. However, when the young forest elf draws a powerful weapon—the Master Sword—he falls into a seven-year slumber, during which Ganon seizes power. Throughout the game, he must now use time travel to try to overthrow Ganon and rescue Princess Zelda.
By the way, the Switch 2 remake isn’t the first of its kind! The N64 game already received a remake back in June 2011. Back then on the 3DS and under the fitting title The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. Both the original and the remake have enjoyed high sales figures (7.6 million), surpassed only by Twilight Princess (10 million), Tears of the Kingdom (21.9 million), and Breath of the Wild (33 million).
What do you think of the new remake? Are you as excited as can be, or have you had enough of it after two Ocarina of Time games? Let us know in the comments!
