Good news for all VR lovers at the start of the new year: A mod should be able to expand your VR library

For all fans with VR glasses, there is good news right at the start of the year. We’re talking about VR games on the PC that aren’t actually intended for VR at all.

Thanks to the Praydog UEVR mod, you are now able to experience many Unreal Engine 4 and 5 titles in a new way. The mod in question is now available as a public beta

Will this mod revolutionize the VR market?

Under the mixed article, some users have commented on what they think of the mod. Some are even very enthusiastic, like user Herbert Werters:

I love the mod. It’s simply awesome. Yes, I really only have high demands when it comes to resolution. But never mind. We can now play really cool games in VR and they’re really playable right up to the end credits. That’s so great

Another user called pasfish111, on the other hand, is a little more sober despite the positive mood:

My conclusion: The UEVR Injector is really great for (us) ravenous PCVR freaks who want to play everything in 3D (VR is more for me!) no matter what the cost. However, the games don’t (yet) play really smoothly. Which is logical! Let’s see what else will be possible with the mod in the future with updates and more optimized game profiles […].

If you are now interested, you can take a look via this link on the official website of the (Mod provider0 already. Games that work particularly well with this mod according to mixed.de are Returnal, High on Life, Atomic Heart and Robocop.

According to other 9sources such as Eurogamer) many first-person shooters can also be realized particularly well in VR, in contrast to titles from the third-person view.

What it looks like when a title is played with the mod can be seen as an example in this YouTube video:

Other games tested by Eurogamer:

  • Horizon Chase 2 (car racing game)
  • Ride 5 (motorcycle racing game)
  • Mortal Shell (Souls-like 3rd person)
  • Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleased Ecto Edition

(In your test video) you can see that the picture in the car racing game is a bit jerky, but overall the title seems quite playable.

In the motorcycle racing game, you feel surprisingly real on your bike – even if the controls require some practice. Mortal Shell’s combat system works quite well for the most part, only the cutscenes are said to be a bit wobbly

Ghostbusters, on the other hand, seems to be made for VR. In the video, it looks absolutely natural to be able to look around everywhere and search for clues.

How it works according to the modders

On the (page of Flat2VR) you will find a particularly detailed guide on how to use the mod.

At the bottom you can take a look at a quick starter guide to see what the mod looks like and what settings are possible.

▶ Step 1: The download via Github

▶ Step 2: Open the UEVR console and select your game that runs on the UE 4 or 5

▶ Step 3: Set your settings and press Inject – and you should be able to see your game in VR.

As soon as the game appears in the glasses, you can make additional settings, for example for the graphics, the configuration of the glasses and the finishing touches.

These games are recommended by the modders themselves

Finally, here is a list of some games recommended by the mod developers themselves. You can find a complete list of supported games under the Flat2VR link further up in the article

  • Aliens: Fireteam Elite
  • Severed Steel

What do you think about this mod? Have you already tried it? Are you die-hard VR fans? Which games with the Unreal engine would you like to try out in VR? Will this mod revolutionize the VR market or is it simply a nice gimmick for in-between games that will give the VR market a boost? Let us know your thoughts and ideas in the comments.
