Although Bethesda’s sci-fi role-playing game isn’t even out yet, studio head Todd Howard has already promised numerous expansions.

The gameplay footage for Starfield was undoubtedly one of the highlights among the many announcements and trailers of the last few days. Over 1000 planets will invite you to explore in Bethesda’s new title.

Despite this already considerable size of the base game, Bethesda’s chief developer Todd Howard has already promised a wealth of smaller and larger expansions for the role-playing game.

What did Todd Howard say?

In (interview with IGN) Howard revealed that his team still has “a whole lot of content planned for Starfield.” Among them, in addition to numerous smaller addons are some larger story DLCs

Our plan is to make things in different sizes. We’ve done that a lot in our previous games and it’s something we like to do

Howard is alluding to previous Bethesda games in the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series. Bethesda did a similar thing with these and provided the games with several extensive expansions after launch.

In some cases, their story was more exciting than the main game itself. Addons such as Far Harbor, Dawnguard or Shivering Isles have left a lasting impression on fans. Speaking about the future of Starfield, Todd Howard stated:

So despite the size of the game, there are still things we want to add in the future in terms of features or stories and things like that. Hopefully we can continue with that for quite a while.

Long-term strategy hinted at

This suggests that Bethesda will continue to supply Starfield with DLCs for a long time to come, and will at least be busy for the foreseeable future supplying you with new content for the space epic.

The first story expansion for Starfield has even been announced. It will be called Shattered Space and will be included in the Digital Premium and Constellation Editions of the game. Bethesda has not yet commented on the storyline, however.

More information about the DLCs will follow in the near future – you will of course find it here immediately. Starfield will be released on 6 September 2023 for PC and Xbox Series X/S.

What do you think of the DLC plans for Starfield? Do you celebrate the decision, for example because you liked Shivering Isles, or do you think Todd Howard should first deliver a finished game before announcing further content? Feel free to write us your thoughts in the comments.
