Akira Toriyama is already firmly entrenched in the gaming world through games like Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger and Dragon Ball. Now it’s the turn of his manga Sand Land.

A lot of new trailers and games were shown and announced at the Summer Game Fest Opening Night 2023 on 8 June. One of them is the open-world game Sand Land. Connoisseurs need to see exactly one single frame of the accompanying trailer to be able to say immediately that this is a game by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama.

What is Sand Land?

Sand Land is an action-packed open-world game, based on the manga of the same name by Akira Toriyama You take on the role of the little demon prince Beelzebub. Together with your thieving buddy Rao, you travel through the desert in search of water and money But best just see for yourself:

Much like in Mad Max, the world of Sand Land is plagued by extreme water shortages caused by war and drought. But as if that wasn’t enough, there is a greedy king who wants to make his profit from the little water that remains. In the game, you decide to steal one of the king’s water tanks, but due to a defect in your car, your plan fails and the story takes its course. Speaking of cars: According to the trailer, fighting with vehicles also plays a big role.

It is not yet known when the game will be released But you won’t have to wait that long for Sand Land, because an accompanying anime film is scheduled for release in August this year . But this is not the only highlight of Summer Game Festes Opening Night 2023.

What do you think of the dystopian Sand Land? Would you rather have gotten a new Mad Max or Dragon Ball game? Have you already read the Sand Land manga? Which is your favourite Akira Toriyama franchise and which brand would you also like to see a game about? Are you fans of anime-style games at all? We are very interested in your opinion, so feel free to write it in the comments!
