MatPat has been a fixture on gaming YouTube for over 13 years, particularly with his channel “The Game Theorists”. This will soon come to an end, but things will continue differently

Thats just a theory, a GAME-THEORY! Most of you will have heard this phrase in one form or another at least once on YouTube or read it somewhere on the gaming internet. It’s iconic and – because it’s often quoted – has become a meme

However, its creator, who is now 37 years old, will soon stop after 13 years on YouTube

On March 9, 2024, Matthew Robert “MatPat” Patrick wants to present his very last Game Theory. But: Why is he leaving? And what will the 18.5 million subscribers to the channel The Game Theorists get to see in the future? We’ll explain it to you

A project of many

Reasons: According to MatPat, 2023 has been the best year since the existence of the main channel The Game Theorists. And as he had always wanted to stop during a high, now was the right moment. The core motivation behind this was to spend more time with his son and wife.

In his announcement, he also refers to another millionaire Youtuber, Tom Scott. He too has announced (after ten years – in his case – that he is quitting YouTube for the time being.)

What’s next for the channels?

Although he will be stepping onto the YouTube stage far less frequently in future, the more than 40 million subscribers to all channels will continue to receive content. All of them will be continued by employees, some of whom have been with the company for many years

How many episodes are still to come with MatPat?  As of 10.01, there are still nine episodes planned on The Game Theorists with the founder He will also be appearing on his talk/live channel until the end of the summer. After that, someone from his team on the above core channels will always take over the host role.

Humility and gratitude

Central to his announced farewell are descriptions of his memories of increasingly frequent meetings with fans. Here, he experiences great admiration for his work. Above all, he always feels honored when young people see him as a formative part of a past or current phase of their lives

But I am convinced that it is time for someone else to receive this honor.

Towards the end, he finally expresses his feelings again with moist eyes:

I love you guys, honestly. You’re not just numbers, not just ad clicks, not just Mechandise sales. What we’ve done for each other is special. You’ve taken me on the wildest and craziest 13 year ride of my life. I am incredibly grateful for that.

What are MatPat’s future career plans?

One thing is clear: He will remain part of many things on the channels. But his role will change. He has been working on a Lore-Fi series for some time now, which is due to be released in a few weeks. He also wants to finally realize a video game idea. And of course: he will also appear in various formats from time to time. So he’s not completely gone, but he’ll soon be a guest of honor rather than a presenter.

Have you been following the work of Matthew Robert MatPat Patrick? Are you perhaps a long-time viewer of one or even all of his channels? Which game theory do you find the most exciting to date? And will you stay on the ball when he stops? Or will your subscription to his channels end when he leaves? Let us know your opinion in the comments!
