Cyan Worlds offers a glimpse into the teaser for the canceled puzzle-adventure game and promises new projects set in the same universe.

Cyan Worlds has released a new trailer. In it, we get a glimpse of a new Myst game that the developer has been working on for several months. The video shows a prototype that was originally intended only for the publishers’ eyes. The project was scrapped for “various reasons,” but the team is still proud to present their work.

Myst: New Puzzle Title Scrapped

On Cyan’s YouTube channel, Creative Director Eric Anderson and Development Director Hannah Gabriel explain why they’re now showing the teaser for the game, which won’t be released anyway.

In its current form, the title—codenamed “Project Anglerfish”—will no longer see the light of day. That said, Anderson explained that the team is working on other projects set in the Myst universe and will reveal more about them as soon as they’re ready. A small glimmer of hope for everyone eager for even more Myst.

The trailer conveys an eerie atmosphere. Not exactly scary, but definitely very tense. The music, the dark locations, and the haunting voice that accompanies us through the gloomy corridors—speaking as if obsessed with this one book, shouting at the player, and threatening them if they fail to bring the book next time. I wonder what’s in that book? At the very least, the trailer suggests that the game also involves time travel.

The video has already captivated me. I want to know more about what this book is all about, and I had this heavy, oppressive feeling in my chest. The first teaser is already getting to me. It’s such a shame that this project won’t see the light of day. I always have a lot of fun with puzzle games and love dark settings—it definitely would have been a game I’d have spent a few hours playing.
