The developers of DayZ have announced the Frostline expansion. As the name suggests, it takes place in an icy winter landscape
Over ten years ago, the influential zombie survival game DayZ launched in Early Access. Five years later, version 1.0 landed on Steam and a year later the developers ventured into their first expansion, Livonia.
Now another add-on has been announced, taking us back to a new world. And it’s supposed to be the most dangerous place we’ve visited in the game so far.
What’s inside Frostline?
KWith the expansion, we land on the island of Sakhalin, which lies in the far east of Russia and is only 43 kilometers away from the Japanese island of Hokkaido to the south. We can probably explore the entire island, which covers an area of 83 square kilometers , which is about a third of the world of the main game. The teaser already gives a small foretaste:
Not all the details about Frostline are known yet, but some of the content and features are already described on the Steam page:
- Greatest challenge: Sakhalin is said to be the most dangerous environment in the survival game to date. The cold and dangerous animals present us with special challenges. As usual, we also have to take care of food and water and fend off zombies and other players.
- Volcanoes: Environmental hazards will also play a role in the expansion. On Steam, there is talk of volcanoes in particular, so we may have to be prepared for eruptions or perhaps toxic gases.
- New animals: We encounter new animals on Sakhalin. The trailer shows a reindeer, for example.
- New mechanics: Among other things, there will be new diseases. Fishing has also been revised.
When will Frostline be released? On Steam, the fourth quarter of 2024 is given as the release period. In the description, the developers talk about fall. We can therefore expect a release in October or November.
DayZ and the new expansion, with their strong focus on PvP multiplayer, are by no means suitable for all players. Fortunately, there is much more to discover in the genre: On Steam, for example, V Rising has just left Early Access, while Abiotic Factor is brand new.
