World Record in Baldur’s Gate 3: Someone has completed the massive role-playing game in a staggering three minutes. We’ll tell you everything about the speedrun.

Let’s hear no one say that it takes several hundred hours to play through Baldur’s Gate 3. That the game is too complex, the plot too sprawling, to even begin to get through it in a single day.

But a skilled speedrunner already debunked those arguments back in 2023. In a YouTube video, the player with the simple username Mae recorded himself playing through the RPGin just 3 minutes and 31 seconds—setting a world record in the process.

A remarkable achievement, considering the game had been released just three months earlier. If you want to see how it all looks in motion, check out Mae’s video:

How did Mae manage that?

To reach the end of the game in such a short time, Mae uses a whole range of tricks. The speedrun also only works with the Origin character Gale. You can read about what Origin characters are in our companion guide.

When watching the speedrun, it’s immediately obvious that Mae uses his Galeto speed-jump rather than run. This is because it allows him to move faster. To make such huge leaps, Mae gave Gale a Strength of 17 and uses the Improved Jump ability. Jump distance in Baldur’s Gate is determined by your Strength stat; the Improved Jump ability triples that distance.

As a result, Mae’s gameplay looks a bit like a frog simulator. Or, in the words of Newsroom colleague Phil Elsner, “It looks weird—and fascinating!”

Explosive Ending

By using the Origin character Gale, Mae can also complete the game as early as Act 2,since he exploits asecretending.

In this ending, Gale blows himself up along with the game’s antagonists, Ketheric Thorm, Orin the Red, and Lord Enver Gortash, and also destroys the Elder’s brain that controls these three. This concludes the main story.

To get there, Mae uses the abilityMisty Stepwhich teleports him to an area that players normally don’t gain access to until later. In addition, Mae has his companion Shadowheart immunize him against enemy damage effects, which is why he simply marches right past almost all enemies. So there’s already quite a bit of brainpower involved in this speedrun.

Mae’s world record has since been beaten several times, including by the player himself.& nbsp; The current leaderwith a time of 3 minutes and 19 seconds is bisc from the USA.
