Riot has confirmed that characters from the Netflix series will become playable champions in the MOBA. We introduce you to the most promising candidates.

In League of Legends you can now choose from 157 champions. And Riot is obviously not thinking about slowly closing the lid. New characters join on a fairly regular basis, always with a unique skill set and their own backstory.

After the bombastic success of the Netflix series Arcane, it stands to reason that some characters from there could migrate to the MOBA in the future. And Riot’s lead producer Reav3 has confirmed just that at (Reddit). With two caveats, though: The next new additions are not from Arcane. And he does not mention any names yet, the team is looking forward to selecting suitable characters – in plain language, the whole thing is probably still in the concept phase.

Arcane: Give the Netflix series a chance, regardless of whether you like League of Legends

But having seen the series several times (you can read my review above), I already have some very clear suspicions. Be expressly warned at this point about spoilers for the first season!

These are the most likely LoL candidates

Sevika

Who is this? Sevika is the right-hand woman of Zhaun’s underworld boss Silco. She is not only extremely strong, but also experienced and perceptive. Jinx is suspicious of her from the start and she shares a personal enmity with Vi, which the two fight out several times.

How likely is that
? I would bet my beloved Aristocrat Vayne that Sevika will become a LoL champion. She’s still alive after the events of the series, brings a complex storyline and most importantly: In the last fight against Vi, she shows very special abilities that could be perfectly transferred to MOBA. Her passive ability could be related to the cyber arm.

Mel Medarda

Who is this? The elegant councillor is a master of politics, pulling strings in the background and has an unerring sense of which horse to back. In Arcane, that horse is Jayce. There’s more to Mel than political genius, though: she hails from the brutal empire of Noxus, but has turned her back on her family and rejects the cruelty of her homeland.

How likely is that
? Quite likely, though it depends on whether she survives the first season finale. Fans with sharp eyes may have noticed that her armour glows brightly as Jinx’s missile approaches. Perhaps protective magic? That could suggest she’ll be a support in the future.

Ambessa Medarda

Who is this? Mel’s mother, a muscle-bound veteran from Noxus who doesn’t shy away from violence and sees a personal vulnerability in her daughter. Although she only appears late in the first season and can only be seen for a few minutes, she has already won many fans with her coarse manner. Whether there’s some overlap with Lady Dimetrescu’s admirers from Resident Evil I’ll leave to one side.

How likely is that
? Ambessa would be ideal as a brawler or tank. i could imagine her perfectly in a line with noxian champions like Darius and Draven. Her implied rivalry with Swain would also be particularly exciting. Personally, I think Ambessa will become champion if Mel died in the assassination – and vice versa. But maybe we’ll see both Medarda women in the Summoner’s Rift.

Ren (Marcus’ daughter)

Who is that? The little girl with the red hair looking up at her enforcer father. In the meantime I also discovered her name in the credits: Ren.

How likely is that
? After her father’s death in the explosion on the bridge, she would have a classic LoL motive for joining the League. Child champions are not uncommon, think Annie or Nunu. However, Marcus’ daughter hasn’t shown any special abilities so far, so it remains a vague guess at the moment.

If you’re interested in which champions have appeared in Arcane so far, you’ve come to the right place:

What about Silco, Finn and Co.?

Yeah, I would have thought Silco would be a champion for sure before the finale too. His character design alone would have been such a fantastic fit!

But honestly, I find it hard to imagine Riot completely throwing out the LoL canon and reviving it in the MOBA. After all, Arcane is playing before, so Silco is no longer alive. And undoing his death would extremely weaken the story in the aftermath. Season 2 shouldn’t slack on that!

This also applies in my eyes to other candidates who would otherwise have been very promising: Marcus, Finn, Mylo, Clagger, Grayson and so on. I’m assuming dead characters aren’t eligible for LoL either because it’s set in the same universe. If I’m completely wrong about that, I’ll play as a solo Kalista for ten matches as punishment. Or say five.

What do you guys think about this? Do you think Riot is splitting up the universes instead of screwing with an overarching lore? Who would you like to play in LoL? Feel free to write us your opinion in the comments.
