The next season of Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops: Cold War is coming up. We collect all the info on release and content.

The roadmap to Season 5 is here
The roadmap to Season 5 is here

This is what we know about Season 5 Reloaded in Warzone

Release: When does Season 5 Reloaded start

Just over a month after the launch of Season 5, things are moving forward in a big way: Season 5 Reloaded in Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will launch on 09 September 2021 at 6am German time.

On 7 and 8 September, the updates required for the start of the season will already be released.

How big will the update for Season 5 Reloaded be?

At this point, Activision, Treyarch and Raven Software have not yet announced a download size. We will keep you updated on this and add the information as soon as we have it.

What new content is available in Season 5 Reloaded?

With the big update you can expect two new game modes in Warzone. We will briefly introduce them to you:

Clash

The mode was already announced at the start of Season 5, but not released until now. It is now activated with the Reloaded update and, as expected, is similar to the popular Rumble mode, i.e. two teams with 50 people each compete against each other. The goal is to collect 500 points with the help of kills and missions.

However, the entire map of Verdansk is not available, but a random area is selected for each match. Unlike Rumble, other mechanics from the classic Warzone mode are also activated, including buy stations, armour plates, vehicles, cash and the ping system.

With Clash in Warzone, things are definitely going to get pretty messy.

Iron Trails ’84

The second mode will not be activated until the mid-season. For this reason, the developers are still holding back with exact information. At its core, Iron Trails can be described as a tougher Battle Royale with a few special features:

– Health increased, regeneration rate changed: According to the developers, this should provide a different gameplay experience, as the Time to Kill (TTK), among other things, is directly influenced. In addition, you will have a different view of certain weapons and equipment

  •  Loadouts: There will be no free drops, instead you will always have to buy them in-game.
  • Gulag: Shotguns and Akimbo are flying out, tactical gear is being reduced. Gulag is to focus on raw firefighting. The winner ends up back in the game afterwards and keeps the weapons from the gulag.

More changes: The developers also announce slight modifications for Verdansk within the game mode. Details on this are to follow soon.
Those who win once in Iron Trails can subsequently look forward to a special calling card

Midseason Event: What happens at “The Numbers”?

For Season 5 Reloaded, the official roadmap announces an event focusing on the transfer stations. Since the start of Season 5, these antennas can be found on various trucks, but without much effect yet. This will change with the mid-season event “The Numbers”.

The Numbers starts on 21 September in Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops Cold War. Nine unlockable cosmetic items await you in both games. While you have to complete nine specific tasks in Cold War, you can explore the map in Warzone.

In Battle Royale, you have to find the nine unique transmission stations and receive a cosmetic item for each. By “unique” it is meant that you have to find all the different antennas and none of them count twice.

Lots of numbers for cosmetic items: The Numbers event starts in September.
Lots of numbers for cosmetic items: The Numbers event starts in September.

Those who complete all nine tasks in Warzone or Cold War can also enjoy a new weapon for the first time during an event: Sai. The melee weapon is supposed to guarantee fast attacks and can be used in both games.

What happens in Cold War?

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War also gets special content with Season 5 Reloaded. We also summarise this for you:

  • New map Zoo: A map that fans already know from a DLC for the first Call of Duty: Black Ops. Designed for 6vs6 modes
  • Mode Demolition: Similar to Search & Destory, an attacking team has to destroy bombs of the defenders. As soon as the first bomb is destroyed, both teams get bombs and it gets chaotic for a corner.
  • Armada as Outbreak Map: The map Armada, available since release, will be added to the Outbreak Mode
  • Rampage Inducer for Zombies: New Challange that increases the zombie spawn rate and allows the undead to sprint indefinitely
  • Survival as an outbreak mode that starts during the Numbers event

The end of Season 4 in Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops: Cold War is fast approaching. So what about Season 5? It is already in the starting blocks, which is why there is now also an official overview of the changes and innovations in the form of an image, which you can find below. There are quite a few new features for both games, which is why we’ll tell you all about them in this overview.

Players’ best hope: Warzone’s cheater problem has always been a big issue – but the current state of affairs is dire. Increasingly brazen offers to cheat, hacking actions and a lack of anti-cheat protection mean that cheaters are in many lobbies. Whether this will change in Season 5 remains to be seen

This is what we know about Season 5 in Warzone

Release: When does Season 5 start

The current Season 4 ends on August 10, 2021, and this time it will continue seamlessly afterwards: The developers announced that Season 5 will start on August 12, 2021, which corresponds to August 13, 2021 for us due to the time zone. The download is usually possible before then, we will keep you up to date.

The individual seasons last about two months – it will almost certainly be the case again this time. Season 5 will probably accompany you until October. A first cinematic trailer reveals what you can expect:

How big will the update be for Season 5?

One concern of many players with a slow internet connection concerns the notorious size of the Warzone updates. The current download is not exactly small either, at 22 GB. Warzone players also need around 50 GB of free space for the update process, of which just under 22 GB is occupied on the hard drive after installation.

Since no sniper appeared in Season 4, many players might have hoped that Season 5 would bring a new model here as well. However, this does not seem to be the case at this point in time.

All about the new Perks in Season 5

The most important new features in Season 5 are the two new Perks Combat Scout and Tempered. These are the first two perks exclusive to Warzone. The previous selection still resembled the portfolio from Modern Warfare. This could breathe new life into the entire game balance, because in the past months there were really only a few standard perks that almost every player chose. What we know so far about the two new perks:

Combat Scout: With this perk, an operator receives a lot of information about the current battle action. You could even call it a kind of wallhack. Because with it, hit enemies are marked in bright orange and automatically pinged. This is a great advantage, especially with enemies who are hiding in buildings that are difficult to see or behind good cover. Of course, communication with squad members is paramount here.

If you choose the Tempered perk, your armour plates will withstand a lot more.
If you choose the Tempered perk, your armour plates will withstand a lot more.

Tempered: As the name suggests, this perk benefits the armour. Because then it is enough to have only two armour plates instead of three in order to be considered fully equipped. Each armour plate can withstand 75 points of damage instead of 50 before it gives up the ghost. Those who choose Tempered, however, will have to do without the second perk slot.

What new weapons are there in Season 5?
Usually, at least two new weapons appear with each season, some of which are only unlocked in the course of time. Season 5 brings three new weapons directly at launch and one more in the course of the season.

These are the four weapons for Season 5:

EM2 (Launch): The assault rifle is supposed to convince with its range and precision. However, it only has a low rate of fire.

TEC-9 (Launch): The semi-automatic SMG is supposed to be easy to handle and show its full effect at medium range. On the other hand, it does not fire particularly fast.

Marshal (Mid-Season): This weapon combines elements of a pistol and a shotgun and provides powerful damage at short range, which can reach up to a one-shot.

Walking Cane (Launch): If you want to sneak around like a true gentleman, you can simply use the walking stick to strike in close combat and take out the opponent.

The Akimbo Tec-9 submachine guns can already be seen on the official cover artwork:

Since there was already no Sniper released in Season 4, many players might have hoped that Season 5 would bring a new model here as well. However, this is not the case at the moment.

Maps: What map changes are there in Season 5?

Gulag: For Season 5, the Rush map from Black Ops 2 will make its return. More specifically, its familiar paintball area, which should help the speed of the fights due to the layout.

In Season 5, the Gulag gets a new look. The tight paintball arena promises very fast-paced battles.
In Season 5, the Gulag gets a new look. The tight paintball arena promises very fast-paced battles.

Verdansk: As the story continues to progress, Season 5 will feature a number of mobile radio stations as POIs throughout the map. These will spawn in different places in each game to make the search more varied. But that’s not all: There will also be other POIs, the backgrounds of which you will have to find out for yourself.

There is also a small change to the red doors
: According to the developers, they should be even more hectic and thus more unpredictable in Season 5, as far as their spawn behaviour is concerned. They are also said to be connected to an in-season event, which is currently still being kept secret.

In Season 5, mobile radio stations spawn all over the Verdanks map as new POIs.
In Season 5, mobile radio stations spawn all over the Verdanks map as new POIs.

Modes: Is there a new mode in Season 5?

Yes, there is: The so-called Clash Mode is coming in the course of the season and is supposed to be a kind of evolution of the popular Rumble mode. That means above all: Action-packed 50v50 battles will return. That means you can imagine a kind of deathmatch on a very large scale, in which players choose their loadouts and go into battle.

Each successful kill adds one point to your squad’s account. The first player to accumulate 200 points wins the match. During the match, players must also try to complete certain missions and other events during the course of a round.

What new operators are there in Season 5?

There will be four new operators in Season 5. Three of them are available for you to choose from right at the start:

Striker: A Robocop-like NATO soldier who is described as a true one-man army. He is the result of a military project from the 80s and is driven by the quest to stand out from the crowd with his abilities.

Hudson: Also a NATO member and a good friend of Adler’s, as well as a former interrogation partner of Weaver’s.

Kitsune: A Japanese thief and hacker working for the Warsaw Pact. Born in Kobe, Kitsune left her criminal family at an early age to join Perseus and espouse the values he propagates

Soap: There is also a special surprise waiting for series fans who have been with the series since the old CoD parts – the catch: this operator is only available in the shop together with the new SMG CX-9.

You can get a visual impression of the new operators in our picture gallery:

What about the new Battle Pass?

Of course, there will also be a new Battle Pass in Season 5, which as always comes in a free and a premium variant and offers 100 ranks to unlock. Like its predecessors, the complete edition will contain more unlockable cosmetics and will most likely cost 10 euros again. The developers would like to reveal more details about this in the coming weeks.

When will the NextGen version of Warzone be released?

The usually very reliable website ModernWarzone claims: Console players will get the upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S for Season 5. This is according to a leaked blog entry from developer Raven Software, which is to be officially released shortly.

It is likely that performance boosts will be included alongside graphical improvements. Many players also hope for adjustable FOV sliders for Warzone.

How big will the update for Season 5 be?

A concern of many players with a slow internet connection. But unfortunately, the developers have not yet commented on the file size of the update that will have to be downloaded for the start of Season 5. In Season 4, it was 9.2 GB for PC players, which should serve as a rough guide.

What else is happening in Season 5 of Warzone?

New Prestige Levels: With the start of Season 5, you will now be able to level up a total of 23 Prestige Levels, allowing you to bag more rewards.

The last season? Presumably this is the last season before the launch of CoD: Vanguard, which is still scheduled for release in 2021. The new Call of Duty will once again be unveiled in Warzone, like its predecessor Black Ops: Cold War. So it stands to reason that events in Season 5 will lead up to the reveal.

What happens in Season 5 of Cold War?

Naturally, there will also be new content for Black Ops: Cold War with Season 5. We have also summarised this for you:

New game modes: With the new Double Agent mode, Cold War almost resembles the indie hit Among Us. Here, ten players are assigned a specific role. The biggest role is played by the eponymous double agents, whose objective is either to eliminate their fellow players or to place bombs on the map. The remaining players have to find out which of them is a double agent before it is too late.

The gameplay trailer for the Double Agent mode reveals what the game looks like in action:

The Demolition mode known from numerous predecessors also celebrates a comeback. However, not at the launch of Season 5 like Double Agent, but at a later date.

New Maps: There will be a total of five new maps for Cold War in Season 5. “Echelon” (6v6), “Slums” (6v6), “Showroom” (2v2/3v3), “Drive-In” (6v6) and “Zoo” (6v6).

Zombie Mode
: Season 5 will also provide new content for Zombie Mode. There is a new Outbreak region called “Collateral”. Fittingly, a new vehicle, namely the tank, will also be integrated. In terms of equipment, there is a new weapon, the Grapple Gun. Finally, there is the new perk Death Perception.

Players’ greatest hope: better cheater defence. Warzone’s cheater problem has always been a big issue – but the current state of affairs is dire. Increasingly brazen offers to cheat, hacking actions and the lack of effective anti-cheat protection ensure that cheaters are in many lobbies.

Whether this will change noticeably in Season 5 remains to be seen. However, Raven Software recently declared that it had banned 50,000 cheaters in one day alone. And recently there have been rumours that the upcoming CoD Vanguard will come with an anti-cheat that could also save Warzone.

Iron Trials ’84 (In-Season)

The rules have changed.

Last week, we gave you a first look at some of the fundamental changes coming to Verdansk via this new Mode:

  • Altered Health and Regeneration
  • Removal of Loadout Drops
  • New Gulag Rules
  • Adjusted Environmental Hazards
  • Classified Weapons

Here are three additional changes to expect:

  • Field Upgrades: Dead Silence and Stopping Power have been removed. Leave the pocket sand on the playground.
  • Sniper Rifles: Can only one-shot to the head within 30 meters. You’re gonna have to get up close and personal with the competition.
  • Vehicles: ATVs and Dirt Bikes only. You’ll need to dispatch your foes the old fashioned way. Plan your drops carefully and rotate early.

And as mentioned, those who place first will receive the exclusive Calling Card!

Gameplay

  • Loot that spawns across Verdansk has been adjusted as follows:
  •  New Gulag loadouts
  • New pre-match loadouts
  • New ground and Supply Box loot

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed additional collision issues with various elements across Verdansk allowing Players to exploit/peek/shoot through them.
  • Fixed collision issues with various elements across both Verdansk and Rebirth Island that allowed Loadout Drops to fall through them.
  • Fixed an issue causing Players to not receive the squad wipe notification when finishing the last member of an enemy squad.
  • Fixed an issue causing Players to remain stuck in the blank tablet screen while using the RC-XD Killstreak.
  • Fixed an issue causing the audio for certain Finishing Moves to not play properly.

Weapons

New Weapon

  • Sai: Melee (BOCW): During The Numbers Limited-Time Event starting Sept. 21, those who complete all nine challenges within Warzone or Black Ops Cold War will receive this new functional melee Weapon.

Weapon Changes

While assessing the power level of BOCW Weapons, we have observed some disparities between ease of use and efficacy. The Krig 6 (BOCW) has shown an impressive performance at just about every engagement range. While we believe it is important to have a wide array of Weapons which can be utilized by players of all skill levels — it is critical to the health of the game that their effectiveness scales appropriately with the skill required to wield them. If players can be as effective with a Weapon that is pinpoint accurate that has a marginally slower Time to Kill potential than the hardest to wield Weapons, why would they choose another? As we continue to address these Weapons, we will also be making adjustments to BOCW attachments that offer Recoil Control. We feel these changes will provide a fairer, more diverse long-range landscape.

Assault Rifles

– C58 (BOCW): Recoil adjusted

High damage Weapons like the C58 (BOCW) tend to adhere to a lower Rate of Fire and higher Recoil, which generally balances out their hasty Time to Kill potential. Much like the Krig 6 (BOCW), the C58 (BOCW) was a tad easier to control than we feel is appropriate for a weapon with its damage profile. While “Recoil adjusted” can be rather nebulous, the exact details of these changes can often be difficult to quantify with numbers alone. While the C58’s (BOCW) Recoil has been increased slightly, the majority of this change will be felt in the Recoil Pattern deviation. When this deviation is increased, it can create subtle shifts which become increasingly difficult to compensate for given distance from the target.

– EM2 (BOCW): Base Optic eye position retracted

The EM2 (BOCW) is not receiving a direct reduction to its efficacy with this change. However, it will result in the Base Optic being a less suitable substitute for higher magnification optics. This, however, in conjunction with the changes to Recoil Control barrels will make the EM2 a slightly less viable option to lesser skilled marksmen.

– Assault Rifle Bravo (MW): Upper Torso Multiplier decreased from 1.1 to 1

To the dismay or surprise of some, our data suggests that the Assault Rifle Bravo (MW) is an absolute monster. The Assault Rifle Bravo (MW) will still be capable of achieving an extremely low Time to Kill, though that speed will now be locked behind an additional Headshot. Changes like these align more closely with our goal to shift consistently acquirable TTKs out of the 300ms range.

– Groza (BOCW): Sprint to Fire Speed increased by 15%

The Groza (BOCW) has not yet fulfilled the role we had intended for it. As a more ‘bruiser’ oriented, AR-SMG hybrid, its slow base Sprint to Fire Speed has continued to hold it back considerably. With this change, it will be able to more reliably contest SMGs in short-range engagements.

  • Krig 6 (BOCW): Maximum Damage decreased from 30 to 29, Mid Damage now 25, Minimum Damage decreased from 25 to 23, Weapon Kick adjusted

The vast majority of kills with the Krig 6 (BOCW) take place within its Max Damage Range, which unsurprisingly, is the longest of all BOCW Assault Rifles. This change will affect most Time to Kill breakpoints within its Maximum Damage Range by one bullet. Additionally, we have added a third Damage Range. Which is a change we do not suspect to be immensely impactful, as builds that extend Damage Range could push the Mid Damage Range out to nearly 100 meters — which is well beyond the average kill distance for the Krig 6 (BOCW). Though, it is not all bad for the Krig 6 (BOCW); we have reduced some of the Weapon’s ‘bounciness’ while firing which we feel makes it more enjoyable to use.

Light Machine Guns

  • Light Machine Gun Alpha (BOCW): Recoil increased slightly

The Light Machine Gun Alpha (BOCW) had already been an incredibly accurate LMG prior to the changes which added Recoil Control to the Task Force and Match Grade barrels. With a baseline increase to Recoil and a reduction in the total amount of Recoil Control the aforementioned barrels offer, it will be harder to stay on target with Light Machine Gun Alpha (BOCW) at longer ranges.

Tactical Rifles

  • Tactical Rifle Charlie (BOCW): Recoil decreased

The Tactical Rifle Charlie (BOCW), and many other Tactical Rifles have remained out of the spotlight for nearly three seasons. Given that, we feel now is a good time to reassess their effectiveness, cognizant of the razor’s edge of balance on which Burst Weapons exist. While this change will make the Tactical Rifle Charlie (BOCW) far easier to stay on target with, the reduction in effectiveness to Titanium barrels remains intact, which heavily contributed to the dominance of the Tactical Rifle Charlie (BOCW) and M16 (BOCW) several seasons ago.

  • DMR 14 (BOCW): Recoil adjusted

Rather than an outright ‘decrease’ to Recoil, this change is more of a rework. The DMR 14 (BOCW) has languished since its changes in season one, but it has not been forgotten. Expect the DMR 14 (BOCW) to feel like a new Weapon. Semi-auto Weapon enthusiasts rejoice, as the DMR 14 (BOCW) may see a real resurgence following this change.

  • M16 (BOCW)Weapon Kick decreased

Of the Tactical Rifles adjusted in this patch, the M16 received the smallest change. This is partly because we feel the M16 (BOCW) is already in an acceptable spot for Burst Weapons.

Type 63 (BOCW): Headshot Multiplier decreased from 2.1 to 1.58, Neck Multiplier increased from 1.2 to 1.58, Upper Torso Multiplier decreased from 1.2 to 1, Lower Torso Multiplier decreased from 1.1 to 1, Weapon Kick decreased
The Type 63 (BOCW) has become quite infamous recently — and for good reason. With a single Headshot, Time to Kill could be reduced to 332ms and with two, a mind boggling 166ms. A speed which only Sniper Rifles could compete with a TTK of 0 (only the travel time of the bullet). This should put into perspective how out of line the Type 63 (BOCW) was. While these changes seem extreme, a TTK of 332ms is still possible, it will just require three headshots instead of one.

Submachine Guns

  • Submachine Gun Charlie (MW) with 10mm Auto 30-Round Mags: Maximum Damage decreased from 34 to 31

This Maximum Damage change mirrors the adjustment to the base Submachine Gun Charlie (MW) made earlier this season.

  • OTs 9 (BOCW): Maximum Damage Range decreased by 6.2%

The OTs 9 (BOCW) might be a bit stronger than we would like, but we would first like to see how this change broadly impacts the Weapon’s viability. The OTs 9 (BOCW) was always intended to be the quintessence of barrel stuffing submachine guns. A submachine gun that was intended to challenge shotguns within their Effective Damage Range. We believe it is achieving that, but its Maximum Damage range, while shorter than each other BOCW SMG, might still be too long. We will continue to closely monitor the performance of the OTs 9 (BOCW) following this change.

  • PPSh-41 (BOCW): Weapon Kick adjusted, ADS Sway adjusted

While firing the PPSh-41 (BOCW), the Weapon could kick in a manner that would make it difficult to gauge bullet directionality. This is a subtle change that will have a significant impact on the ability to reliably line up shots.

  • Swiss K31 (BOCW): Recoil adjusted

We have improved the firing Recoil behavior for the Swiss K31 (BOCW). We expect this change to go largely unnoticed as it does not have a measurable impact on the Weapon’s effectiveness but should improve its overall feel.

  • ZRG 20mm (BOCW): Recoil adjusted

Much like the Swiss K31 (BOCW), the ZRG 20mm (BOCW) has received some changes to its firing Recoil behavior to ensure that it looks, sounds, and most importantly feels like one of the baddest Sniper Rifles in Verdansk.

Attachments

Barrels

Assault Rifles

  • Ranger/Liberator/GRU Composite: Vertical Recoil Control decreased from 10% to 8%
  • Reinforced Heavy/VDV Reinforced/Contour: Horizontal Recoil Control decreased from 5% to 4%, Vertical Recoil Control decreased from 5% to 4%
  • Takedown/Contour M2: Horizontal Recoil Control decreased from 10% to 8%
  • Task Force/Spetsnaz RPK/CMV Mil-Spec: Horizontal Recoil Control decreased from 10% to 8%, Vertical Recoil Control decreased from 10% to 8%

Light Machine Guns

  • Match Grade: Horizontal Recoil Control decreased from 5% to 4%, Vertical Recoil Control decreased from 5% to 4%
  • Task Force: Horizontal Recoil Control decreased from 10% to 8%, Vertical Recoil Control decreased from 10% to 8%

As we settle on the proper magnitude of Recoil Control for these barrels, we expect this to impact individual Weapons differently. Weapons that more heavily rely on the Recoil Control they received from these barrels may need to be addressed independently to ensure they align with our Weapon mastery goals.

Tactical Rifles

DMR 14 (BOCW) – 16.3″ Titanium: Damage Range decrease reduced from 25% to 20%, Rate of Fire increase reduced from 16.7% to 15%.
With the aforementioned changes to the DMR 14 (BOCW), we felt it was necessary to make an adjustment to one of the most powerful attachment stats.

Rear Grips

Assault Rifles

  • Groza (BOCW) – Serpent Grip: ADS Speed increase reduced from 9% to 7%

To ensure the Groza (BOCW) does not cross too far into Submachine Gun territory following the increase to its Sprint to Fire Speed and given its already SMG-like ADS Speeds, we are reducing the effectiveness of its Serpent Grip.
