Season 3 brings not only many changes for Warzone, but also a new Battle Royale mode on the biggest maps of Black Ops Cold War.

With Multi-Team Elimination, a new game mode for CoD Cold War has been announced, whose description sounds like a new Battle Royale. The announcement on the official blog for Season 3 states:

“Multi-Team Elimination brings the “last-team standing experience” to Black Ops Cold War’s largest maps. There, multiple teams of four players each will clash and fight for survival as irradiated zones spread around them. You can only re-enter a limited number of times and loadouts are restricted. Therefore, teams will scour the map for weapons, score breaks, armor, and respawn tickets. To win, a group must either reach the rescue helicopter first or be the last team to survive.”

  • What’s it about? So the new mode is a squad variant for four players. Just like in Warzone, players go on the hunt for loot in order to be as well equipped as possible. Instead of a ring surrounded by deadly gas, however, there are apparently several contaminated zones that are constantly growing.
  • Differences from Warzone: Since the new mode is based on Cold War (and not Modern Warfare), the gameplay should be different. Weapon behavior, movement, and armor mechanics are from Fireteam mode, not Warzone. Those who are used to Cold War multiplayer should be able to find their way around right away.
  • New maps announced: The release of Multi-Team Elimination is scheduled for Season 3. Since the largest maps of Cold War are mentioned, this can only be the Fireteam maps, on which, for example, Dirty Bomb with 40 players is possible. Season 3 will also see the release of the Fireteam map Duga.

Is the Ural map still coming?

Originally, fans assumed that a completely new map in the Ural Mountains would be launched in Warzone with Season 3. Instead, all signs point to an extensive map update that will catapult Verdansk into the 1980s.

Fueled by the announcement of Multi-Team Elimination, speculation is now circulating that the Ural map could be for that mode. This would mean the launch of a whole new and big Battle Royale in the Black Ops Cold War engine.

Warzone, on the other hand, will continue to run on the basic framework of Modern Warfare and will only receive content (such as weapons or operators) from Cold War.
