The soldiers in BF2042 are supposed to sprint faster than in the predecessors. A fan measures up – and a developer also speaks out.

Is the sprint in Battlefield 2042 faster than in the predecessors? And were the soldiers in Battlefield 4 really moving slower than in other parts of the shooter series? A fan is now measuring exactly that by organising an Olympics. The developers have also caught wind of this and are providing some solid figures.

Which Battlefield is the fastest?

You can watch the first (short) episode of the BF Olympics here on SMK Gaming’s Youtube channel, we summarise the results below:

BF4, BF1, BF5 and BF2042 competed in two disciplines: the normal sprint and the tactical or super sprint.

Normal Sprint:

  • Place 1: Battlefield 2042
  • Place 2: Battlefield 4
  • Place 3 shared by Battlefield 5 and Battlefield 1

The tactical sprint is a more complex picture – Battlefield 2042 and Battlefield 4 would be almost equal winners if SMK Gaming hadn’t forgotten BF4’s speed perk. Core gameplay designer Florian Le Bihan points this out on Twitter. He also posted the official speeds, which the Twitter account Battlefield Bulletin shares here:

According to him, sprint speeds look like this:

  • Battlefield 1 and 5: 6.04 m/s
  • Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 2042: 6.5 m/s
  • Battlefield Hardline: 6.75 m/s

In BF3 and BF4 the special sprint speed is 7.15 m/s, but in BF2042 you cover 7.25 m/s in the tactical sprint.

So why does BF2042 seem so fast to many
? This is probably because the tactical sprint was possible for an unlimited time in the beta. And thus not only makes the normal sprint seem slow, but downright obsolete. Players, of course, translated the whole thing directly into memes. For example, in this parody of Forest Gump:

By the way, the super soldiers of Battlefield do not set a world record with their speed. That is 12.5 m/s and was achieved by sprinter Usain Bolt. But of course he didn’t have any armour on, including a gadget backpack and weapons.
