Sony has released new system software for testers. In addition to the automatic AI upscaler, the patch also introduces an important feature for e-sports tournaments.

Sony has released the latest firmware update for all PlayStation 5 owners participating in the console’s beta program.

The update is particularly aimed at PlayStation 5 Pro owners, as it now applies the improved PSSR 2.0 upscaling by default to all games that support PSSR.

The original version of PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) has been available since November and offered AI-powered upscaling for a selection of PS5 games. In March 2026, an improved version arrived on the console alongside Resident Evil Requiem and has since been implemented in various titles.

Officially, however, PSSR 2.0 is still far from being available in every game that supports the upscaler. Since March, you’ve had the option to enable a setting that forces the use of version 2.0.

Default Activation and New Bluetooth Feature

The new beta update now enables PSSR 2.0 by default. Users who weren’t previously aware of this feature will now automatically benefit from it in all compatible titles.

Another new feature is the ability to disconnect all Bluetooth connections. This is an option that’s likely of little use to the average user. It’s intended primarily for e-sports tournaments and similar events, where controller connections often suffer from massive interference when numerous consoles are transmitting in a confined space. That’s why Sony advises: “Do not use this feature for any other purposes.”

Meanwhile, Sony continues to stick to its controversial plan to discontinue the production of PlayStation discs. In some cases, warning notices have even appeared on PS5 packaging, indicating that discs will be phased out starting in 2028.
