Shift-Up has released a new promotional video forStellar Blade: Bloodrain, and it’s, let’s just say, controversial. The Korean developer has, fittingly, opted for a K-pop music video featuring the protagonist Eve. Sounds cool? Some fans would disagree, as the video was apparently created using generative artificial intelligence. And that’s a topic that’s currently highly controversial.
Stellar Blade: Bloodrain Draws Criticism with New Music Video
The song featured in the video, titled “Wanna be in Love,” was composed by the developer. In thevideo on YouTubewe see Eve at the microphone and walking through the sci-fi city. She rides an elevator, looks in store windows, browses the shops, and is also seen in a gloomy bar.
It’s a montage of the protagonist in front of the camera, at the microphone, and going about her daily life. At the end, the video breaks the fourth wall and shows the digital Eve with a real-life team powdering her face, adjusting the camera, and taking care of the K-pop idol. It has a bit of an “Uncanny Valley” feel to it, because here Eve already looks more realistic than I’d like. The Shift-Up team high-fives the virtual Eve, chats with her, and eats together with her. It must have felt strange to shoot these scenes.
In and of itself, this AI-generated K-pop video isn’t anything that should come as a huge surprise. Shift-Up has already made a name for itself as an advocate for the use of artificial intelligence. It’saccording to the CEOan important tool for even being able to hold its own against major competitors, such as those from China.
It is still unclear to what extent Shift-Up will use AI in Stellar Blade: Bloodrain. In the video, at least, it is largely criticized by fans.
