Flying sounds like something that should actually be impossible inValheim. Sure, the survival game draws on Norse mythology and, if in doubt, the god of thunder Thor, for example, could cling to his hammer Mjölnir. However, normal mortal players usually have to obey the laws of gravity.
Of course, players could theoretically resort to mods to leave the ground behind them. But not Reddit userButterscotchPure4043, who impressed the Reddit fan community in 2022 with a particularly creative construction:an airship.

Steampunk airship in a Viking setting
The impressive thing about the airship:The construct does not have to rust or rot in a wooden hangar, but actually floats in the air on its own – using only a glitch. To be fair, it has to be said that the airship does not fly or even steer in the classic sense, but at least it floats in the air.

Why does the airship float in the first place?How the hell the construct actually floats in the air is illuminated by ButterscotchPure4043 in aYouTube video. He explains that he made use of a glitch in the grassland biome. To make even stones float, which here represent the base of the airship, you have to proceed as follows:
- Use the hoe to raise the ground by one stone or rock formation
- Remove the soil around the stone and carve it into your preferred shape
- Now remove the previously raised ground around the stone again
With these three simple steps, you should be able to levitate stones in Valheim yourself. However, the airship is not only impressive because of this fact alone, but also because of the loving design of its work, which ButterscotchPure4043 displays.
The interior also counts
Fans of Valheim on YouTube were not only impressed by the windmills, which simulate functioning turbines. The detailed cockpit, for which ButterscotchPure4043 made use of Valheim’s colorful mushrooms, also earned praise. You can find more details and information about the creation process of the airship in the video linked above.
ButterscotchPure4043 revealed that although he did not use any mods or non-game content, he at least made use of Valheim’s creative mode. Of course, this made the tedious search for resources and the actual construction of his airship much easier for him.
