Patty Jenkins is working on her Star Wars film again. Rogue Squadron was actually announced in 2020, but production has been frozen in the meantime

Remember Rogue Squadron by Patty Jenkins? The Star Wars film by the director of Wonder Woman was actually announced four years ago, but was later put on hold. Now there is suddenly a new sign of life for the project – from Patty Jenkins herself.

Is Rogue Squadron coming after all?

In conversation with Collider the filmmaker reveals that she owes Disney a script for Rogue Squadron after the Star Wars film was frozen in favor of Wonder Woman 3. However, since a third DC film with Gal Gadot as the superheroine will not materialize, she is now devoting herself to Star Wars again:

When I left Star Wars to do Wonder Woman 3, I thought I’d go back to Star Wars [after that]. So we made a deal for that […]. When Wonder Woman 3 didn’t work out, Lucasfilm and I approached each other again and said Oh, we still have to go through with this That was shortly before the [big Hollywood strike in 2023.

Now I owe my outline for Star Wars and we’ll see what happens. […] I’m back on Rogue Squadron […].

Rogue Squadron was announced with a video back in 2020 and was supposed to be the first Star Wars movie to open in theaters after Episode 9. Production was planned for 2022 in order to bring the film to cinemas in 2023 at the latest. Obviously, nothing has come of it to date.

What caused Rogue Squadron to fail (so far)

At the end of 2021, it leaked that Rogue Squadron would not come to fruition for the time being due to other scheduling commitments of Patty Jenkins . The project has been on ice since then, but now things are apparently moving forward again.

It remains to be seen whether Rogue Squadron will actually make it into cinemas For example, it is currently not known when the Star Wars film could even be released. The Mandalorian & Grogu will start in 2026, after which it should continue with Daisy Ridley’s solo film as Rey

In case you’re wondering what Rogue Squadron is all about: It is, of course, Luke Skywalker’s fighter squadron of Rebel pilots who belong to the elite of the Alliance. Luke chose the name Rogue Squadron in the new canon in honor of Jyn Erso and her team, who stole the Death Star plans in and as Rogue One

The official logo for Rogue Squadron previously implied that the movie does not take place in the middle of the classic trilogy: The X-Wing depicted in the image resembles the revamped New Republic models we first saw in Episode 7 – The Force Awakens&nbsp.
