In a Q&A with Creative Assembly’s Andy Hall, the developer talked about the DLC future of Warhammer 3 and also what not to expect

Since the release of Immortal Empires, Total War: Warhammer 3 fans have been eagerly awaiting the next DLCs. Only recently, the team revealed how it will continue in about the year 2023. There was talk of three major DLCs – one of which will almost certainly bring the Chaos Dwarves into the game.

During an interview with Rookery Publications, Creative Assembly’s Narrative Designer Andy Hall went into detail about what other future content is in the pipeline. Most importantly, he put a clear stop to one big theory: Nippon, or other completely new factions, are not currently planned. You can see the whole interview here:

New content for Cathay, Kislev and ancient peoples

During the video interview, the question also came up whether Creative Assembly will further expand the unit list of the two brand new factions Cathay and Kislev. Hall was not able to give any concrete examples, but confirmed that they are working on it.

It’s a very likely guess that we’ll be looking towards Cathay and Kislev to expand and deepen in the future. With really incredibly cool, cool stuff.

Cathay, like its counterpart on Earth [China, ed.], is incredibly big. It’s huge and so far we’ve only picked up the part near the Great Bastion and a little bit of the area in front of the Mourning Mountains. There’s so much space that we’re looking at in Cathay and areas that we can expand.

But in addition to these two new factions, a couple of established races should also get some attention. Hall talks in the interview about factions that were released very, very early and need a little love.

This can basically only mean races that already existed in the first Warhammer. If we had to type, another rework of the Dwarves would be obvious as soon as they get their counterpart with the Chaos Dwarves.

No Nippon planned

Total War: Warhammer already includes most of the factions that also appear in tabletop. So if the team were to include more unused factions in the future, they would have to come up with some first. Something like this has already been done, for example for Cathay there was only the lore, but no army template.
Many fans therefore expect that Nippon could also come into play in this way. Especially since the borders of this country on the world map can already be found in the game, according to Dataminer. According to Hall, however, the team is not currently planning to invent an entire faction again, as they did with Cathay:

Don’t expect too much. We have a massive roadmap for Warhammer 3, we are also just at the beginning of that roadmap. But are there brand new races on it? Not at the moment.

What do you guys think? Were you looking forward to Nippon or were there other factions you would have preferred? Drop us a line in the comments
