Blizzard has announced a new expansion for Warcraft 3: Reforged in an effort to smooth over the rifts from 2020.
Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos was originally released in 2002 and is still considered a real-time strategy masterpiece today. And as was officially announced at BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard isn’t done with the game yet.
Today, the enhanced
2020 Reforged version surprisingly had the Forsaken Kingdom add-on announced and released simultaneously as a Shadowdrop. There’s also Update 3.0, which adds new features and content to the game.
Redemption
Warcraft 3: Reforged – Kingdom of the Forsaken is a full-fledged new story campaign that tells the story of the origins of Undercity. According to Blizzard, the campaign is expected to add 30 hours of gameplay and also includes the new prologue, “The Last Days of Lordaeron.”

How much does Kingdom of the Forsaken cost? The expansion costs 30 euros on its own. If you buy it as a bundle with Warcraft 3: Reforged, you’ll have to pay 50 euros.
What’s new in Update 3.0?
In the gameplay trailer for Kingdom of the Forsaken, Blizzard introduces a range of new features and content for Warcraft 3: Reforged that will be added via an update. You can see a concise overview here:
- New neutral hero: Forsaken Paladin.
- Expanded group selection: You can now select 24 units at once instead of 12.
- Improved World Editor: Improved lighting, environments, and more.
- New graphics mode that lets you switch between the old and new graphics (exclusive to the Definitive Edition).

Learned from mistakes?
When Warcraft 3 received a remaster in 2020 with the Reforged Edition, it caused a great deal of frustration within the community. Many features and content announced in 2018—some of which had even been shown—including cutscenes, were not included in the final release. Additionally, features already present in the original, particularly online functions, were removed or altered for the worse.
Technically, the Reforged Edition was anything but flawless, and players complained about numerous crashes and graphical glitches. Not playing the remaster was not an option for fans of the original, as Blizzard completely overrode the game, effectively forcing the switch.
Although Blizzard made improvements in the years following the release, tempers never fully cooled. The expansion and the update could therefore be seen as a gesture of goodwill, provided they meet the community’s expectations and demonstrate that Blizzard still cares about the franchise.
