In this guide, we’ll show you how to master Twisted Fate and gain advantages for your team just like Faker did.

We have already seen six games from the supposed best LoL player in the world Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok at the ongoing Worlds. In three of these games, the South Korean played the champion Twisted Fate – including two wins. Especially in the second round of the group stage against EDward Gaming, the pick secured victory for his team T1.

Generally, there are a few important things to keep in mind with Twisted Fate in order to maximise your team’s support:

Always try to kill as many Minions per minute as possible to get more gold through TF’s Passive.
Keep a low profile in the laning phase and try not to die.
For Twisted Fate you need a good macro understanding of the map and knowing when to move where. So focus on your placement rather than good mechanical plays.
Don’t be permanently glued to your team – with your Ult, you can always move freely and be useful solo by advancing other lanes.

Greatest advantage: unpredictability

In the duel with EDG, Faker made particular use of the element of surprise with Twisted Fate. When T1 killed the dragon towards the end of the match, he did not push the midlane as expected, but teleported to the toplane with the help of his Ult, where a teammate had already pinned an opponent shortly before.

Together with a teammate who pushes or can appear at the desired spot through his teleport, Twisted Fate thus has surprise on his side. With a previously selected golden card of his W ability, he can finally hold his opponents immediately and they, in turn, usually cannot react quickly enough. Such moves, however, have to be well coordinated with the whole team.

Items: Everfrost as a must-have

When it comes to items, Faker follows a meta-friendly strategy. A fixed component is the item Everfrost, with whose passive ability you can slow down enemies. Together with Twisted Fate’s gold card of the W ability, this forms the perfect basis for tracking enemies.

Everfrost is then followed by Rapid Firecannon and, in most cases, Zhonya’s Hourglass. As a starting item, Faker relies on Corrupting Potion, which allows you to stay on the lane longer in the early game. Banshee’s Veil, Rabadon’s Deathcap or Void Staff can be used as finishing items. Depending on whether the team structure relies more on your own resistances or longer hold times of your own abilities, you can choose items from this pool.

Runes: Faker relies on Spellbook

In each of his TF games, Faker has relied on the Spellbook rune. With it, he can change his Summoner Spells spontaneously and thus get the most out of his kit. Especially the ability to equip a second teleport in addition to his Ult in the meantime gives the champion enormous advantages and additional presence on the map.

Depending on the opponent TF is playing against on the lane, he chooses either Resolve for resistances or Domination for additional burst damage in the Second Tree.
