Thanks to statements from the developers, we already have a rough idea of how much time we’ll need to set aside for this vampire RPG. On top of that, there could be plenty of replay value.
It’s getting a bit lost in the shuffle right now, but the vampire RPG from former Witcher developers is getting closer and closer:The Blood of Dawnwalkeris set to release on September 3, 2026. That naturally raises the important question:How much playtime should I plan for?
We already have a pretty good idea of how many hours are in the RPG, even if it will likely depend more than usual on your playstyle. One thing is already clear: In terms of length, Dawnwalker has nothing to hide compared to The Witcher 3.
This much time per playthrough
According to Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, director at Rebel Wolves and former director of The Witcher 3, developers needabout 50 to 70 hoursfor a single playthrough.
However, we all know from experience that in open-world games, you can spend a lot of time just exploring. Plus, of course, the difficulty level you choose plays a role in whether you plow through the story or get your teeth knocked out seven times by bosses. We therefore expect that players aiming for a 100% completion will spend even more time in this medieval world.
Dawnwalker also offers a lot of potential for replay value. On the one hand, because decisions are supposed to have a noticeable impact on the course of the story, and on the other hand, because of the day-and-night mechanic. This allows us to complete many quests as either a human or a vampire, which is also supposed to have consequences.
Will I have enough time in the game?In Dawnwalker, we only have a limited amount of time to save our family. If you take too long, you’ll likely have to accept a bad ending to the story. However, the developers explained that time only progresses in certain quests. So you can explore the world at your own leisure, just as usual.
For comparison
The base version of The Witcher 3 typically takes players between 50 and 100 hours to complete. Kingdom Come 2, without add-ons, takes most people about the same amount of time. Red Dead Redemption 2 averages between 50 and 80 hours.
Dawnwalker is therefore expected to be on par with these genre giants in terms of length. Of course, it remains to be seen whether it will be any good and whether the story will keep players entertained throughout!
The Blood of Dawnwalker is the first game from the newly founded Polish development studio Rebel Wolves, which consists partly of veterans from CD Projekt Red who previously worked on The Witcher and/or Cyberpunk 2077. It’s intended to be the first in a whole series of role-playing games that span different eras and are even set in the modern day. Ambitious!
