The Witcher 3 is returning with a remastered version—and the top-tier PC requirements will put some computers to the test.
Eleven years after its release, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will receive its remastered update on September 29, 2026—an update that has already earned fabulous ratings in our review.
With this refresh, PC gamers can (once again) expect new system requirements, which CD Projekt Red has now published in a blog post.
Six Levels from the GTX 1660 to the RTX 5080
The system requirements table for The Witcher 3 Remastered has been broken down into a total of six tiers. Half of these refer to requirements without ray tracing; the other half account for the use of technologies up to and including path tracing at 4K resolution.
Minimum (Low, 1080p, 30 FPS)
- CPU: Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600
- RAM: 12 GB
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660, AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8 GB, or Intel Arc A580 (6 GB VRAM)
Recommended (High, 1080p, 60 FPS)
- CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
- RAM: 16 GB
- GPU: GeForce RTX 2060 Super, Radeon RX 6600 XT, or Arc B580 (8 GB VRAM)
Ultra (Ultra, 1440p, 60 FPS)
- CPU: Intel Core i7-13700K or AMD Ryzen 7 7700X
- RAM: 24 GB
- GPU: GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, Radeon RX 6800 XT, or Arc B580 with XeSS (12 GB VRAM)
RT Minimum (Low Ray Tracing, 1080p with upscaling, 30 FPS)
- CPU: Intel Core i7-11700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
- RAM: 16 GB
- GPU: GeForce RTX 2060 Super, Radeon RX 6600 XT, or Arc B580 (8 GB VRAM)
RT Recommended (Ray Tracing Ultra, 1440p with upscaling, 60 FPS)
- CPU: Intel Core i7-13700K or AMD Ryzen 7 7700X
- RAM: 24 GB
- GPU: GeForce RTX 4080 or Radeon RX 9070 XT (12 GB VRAM)
Path Tracing (Ray Tracing Ultra, 2160p with DLSS, 60 FPS with Frame Generation)
- CPU: Intel Core i9-13900K or AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- RAM: 24 GB
- GPU: GeForce RTX 5080 (16 GB VRAM)
All tiers also require 60 GB of free SSD space; if you purchase the remaster via the Epic Games Store, it’s even 95 GB.
According to CD Projekt Red, the frame rates without ray tracing were measured natively. The stated 60-fps target with ray tracing or path tracing was achieved using the respective upscaling techniques—Nvidia DLSS, AMD FSR, or Intel XeSS—in “Auto” mode; the path tracing setting additionally utilized frame generation.
Speaking of path tracing: According to tech editor Jan, that’s exactly what makes the biggest difference between the “old” version of The Witcher 3 and the remastered version.
Now only with DirectX 12 and SSD
At the lower end of the GPU spectrum, CD Projekt Red reiterates that The Witcher 3 will officially support only Windows 11 going forward.
- That said, this doesn’t automatically mean the game won’t run at all on older operating systems.
- However, since the developers are no longer testing for this platform, compatibility or performance cannot be guaranteed.
Furthermore, support for HDDs has been completely dropped—Geralt of Rivia only wants to see SSDs in your computer. The same applies to DirectX 12: Since Nvidia has discontinued driver support for the older generations—Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta—the GTX 1660 has been chosen as the minimum requirement.
It should be able to exceed the 30 FPS listed in the column and deliver 60 FPS at 1080p resolution.
